I debating whether to sell my jailbroken ATV2, and get two of these, and cross my finger for the ATV3 jailbreak. Firecore seems pretty pessimistic about the prospects, however. But once it's accomplished, the market for the ATV2 will collapse.
The refurb is $85 everyday from the Apple store, but why not get a new one for $5 more?
I'm really hoping that there is a jailbreak available that the devs are holding simply because they know a new ATV is right around the corner. I remember them doing that with one of the iOS versions for iPhone when a new one was about to come out. If a jb is released for ATV4 I'll buy three of them immediately (living room and two bedrooms).
Why is it that one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a camp fire?
well, the following is a whole bunch of worthless comment and speculation, but I just had a coffee and I'm hyper.
there usually is a reason why companies lower the price of their products, they don't do it just out of kindness. ( generally it is to either inflate sales at the end of a quarter or when a new product is coming out ) They are at the end of a quarter. Also, the stock market and economy are taking a beating because of the "fiscal cliff"
The last Apple TV 3 was released in March 2012, so we are just about 3-months to the 1-year mark. Anything is possible. I'm not sure any new Apple TV would be a huge change from the current one.
Apple's fiscal year 2013 runs from September 30, 2012 through September 28, 2013.

1. Never Call the Store
( calling alerts staff to a good deal, they might buy it themselves or call their friends and save it for them )
2. Read AT LEAST one full page of comments before posting your question
3. The comments section, previous page is magical, it will answer your question 90% of the time
Depends on what you use. Roku is great for Amazon Video, Netflix, Crackle, Vudu, etc., but doesn't (easily) do iTunes. Apple TV has Airplay, so you can transmit whatever is on your iPad, iPhone, or Mac screen to your TV, but doesn't play well with Amazon Video.
