Although I agree with you on this (I own multiple expensive, stella Japanese cooking knives), I want to emphasize expensive knife's quality is not always commensurate to its price especially compared to Dexter-Russell, Forschener, and other qualtiy workhorse knife.

Just admit it. The reason people buy expensive knives are not just because of qualities but also because they are mystified and awed by the story, sharpness, and beauty behind it. When it comes to pure practicality, for a normal person, a good Victorinox chef knife will do. All others become subjective value.

I actually clicked on an Amazon email link about headphone deals and I landed on the lightning deal for this Shun Santuko right after the deal just started.

I was actually looking at this knife a couple of weeks ago because I have been wanting another good knife but I decided to not spend the money.

This was a very good deal though - so WTH.

Besides being a great knife, I have to admit that part of the allure of this knife is that it just looks so damn cool. LOL
