If I am not mistaken, this is the lowest price for this router or this bundle. If you have an actual need for the Windows upgrade (or sell it on CL/eBay), it is a very hot deal.

I'd rather be buying something with a combined 4 and 5 star rating in around 80+% but right now it is down in the 50+% range. What to do?

Once you update the firmware, it works really well, and is much faster than than my old Netgear 4500. You won't get the full benefits of 802.11ac unless you use the newest wireless adapters, which are expensive. If you don't have an imminent need need for a router, it might be best to wait. The price for the router AND Windows 8 together is excellent though.

The Netgear 4500 I had wasn't very good. The AC66 is much nicer.

The newest Netgear AC router has just as many bad reviews, but the price on this one is a much better deal.

Loses its Wifi signal all the time and has to be reset even on its latest firmware. This router is very nice, my brother has one and it works better for him than his Netgear 3700 did. Been waiting for a good deal on this router, thanks OP. In for 1.
