Based on the current prices, this one (RT-AC66U) seems to be the best value. Ideally, if you have a local store with a good return policy that carries at least one of these models, I would start there. This way you will know for sure what works for you.

Later down the road, you may see it drop to the $149 price point without a rebate or perhaps a bit lower, but I can't imagine it will go much lower than that for quite some time. Look at some of the N900 routers out there right now, and the top of the line ones are still in this same price range.

Mine came in this morning (Thank you Newegg and ShopRunner!). I already installed it and am loving it. It replaced a WNDR3700 v3 which I bought used.

Everything was sucky about that Netgear router: I had spots with poor wireless coverage and worst of all, it seemed to have a poor wired routing performance. I had bad stuttering in my streaming IPTV service. After installing the Asus, I watched a full-lenghth HD-quality movie with no issues. If this trend continues, I will consider the Asus router to be one of the best upgrades I've made.

Hi everyone, isthis dead already? When I added the Windows upgrade, the price showed up as $69, do I need to apply some code to get it for free? Thanks for all the help. Happy holidays

Thanks a bunch for the update! I am currently working with a dual setup: Arris DG860A on 2.4 GHz and a 3 year old Cisco E2000 running 5.0 GHz. Network is set up in the corner bedroom (which is directly over the family room downstairs so it works well there) but I can't get any signal in the far room (our bedroom). Two-story house, 1900 sqft, three bedrooms total with one bedroom over the garage (the bedroom the current setup is in and I get good reception in the garage). I bought a Motorola SB6141 modem and this ASUS router in hopes that I can get rid of my rental fee with TWC and clear up the reception issue. Not that you care, but I'll update on the performance on the router once I receive and set up.

Hey, that's my house! In my case, my router is in the other bedroom, the one over the garage and in the outer corner too. So, it is literally the least optimal place for it as far as covering the whole house. It was easier to set it up there as far as wiring and space, so I just left it there. But I definitely see an improvement in the wireless signal over the WNDR3700.

I did have some stuttering in the IPTV service today, but nowhere as bad as with the outgoing Netgear. Overall, I am satisfied. Interestingly enough, this is the first time that I splurged on a high-end router with the RT-AC66U being the top router by many accounts.

If this product is anything like the RT-N66U which i've been using then this is a solid deal. Excellent coverage (full signal in a 2 story home, front and back yard--even in the garage. Always reliable--4 months uptime. only time i ever rebooted was for firmware update and a power outage). Consistent wireless throughput--maxes out my d/l cap of 36Mbps throughout the house.

Anyone know if this the same ( Microsoft Windows 8 Professional Upgrade) as from Windows 8 (the basic edition ) to windows 8 pro works?

There is an Open Box [newegg.com] available on Newegg now for $133, if you are quick enough. There are at least 5 in stock right now.
