Instructions for installing the "Bootleg" FF7 mod installation tool (think Nexus Mod Manager for Skyrim).

video showing of a modded version of FF7

Steam overlay works with this game
-add the launcher (not the game .exe) found in the install folder as a "non Steam game"

Game can be installed on more than 1 PC and played simultaneously (I have it running on a desktop and laptop)

Internet connection is not required to play the game after activation

Final Fantasy 3 (6 in US) was the best for me.

Would love a remake of that.

LOL @ Kefka till this day.

7 was nice too.

Funny enough, It's the one that got me seriously into the franchise. I had played earlier ones and liked them but FF7 consumed tons of hours of my life years ago, I have never been into a video game as much as this one since nor could I ever be again lol. Granted, I think every one since, with the exception of IX, has been total crap.

Agreed, 7 was the pinnacle for me. 8 was crap, 2hrs in I turned off my playstation and never played it again. 9 was fun, 10 was ok. Skipped 11 because it was mmorp. 13 was also crap, turned it off after 1 hr and haven't touched it. Won't be coming back to the franchise, if I want some nostalgia I'll replay 1-6.

I'm interested in the deal, but unfortunately I don't know much about the Square Store... do you need to install some special application to use download and play games (like Steam)? Or do I just get an installer executable that I can use offline as I please? The fact that there are cloud saves and achievements makes me think the former, but ideally I'd like to not have yet another game distribution platform to worry about.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I never played FFVII when it came out. A couple of years ago, I struggled playing it for the first time because it seemed like it aged horribly-- the frame rate was awful if I remember right.

Is the framerate steady in the PC release?

Ironically, this seems to be the exact mentality of Sqeenix as of the past.. decade or so.
Their mentality towards the FF franchise has been more "PORTS! SEQUELS! SPINOFFS! REMAKES! MORE PORTS!"

Yes, I'm bitter that in all of the GBA/DS/PSP there wasn't a single original FF game (and no, Crystal Chronicles does NOT count) to be had when there was no reason not to. If they thought that it was an experience not meant for portables, then they shouldn't have ported all of their awesome games to them.

Can we use mods (graphics or otherwise) that have been developed over the years on this version?

Anyways, this looks like a great release. I like how square is still putting at least some resources on the FF7 franchise.

FF7 may have been iconic, but gameplay-wise you'd have to be kidding yourself that this was the best FF *GAME*. Everyone had access to the same spells, everyone's stats reached the same limit; the only differentiating factor between any of the characters is their limit breaks (which meant that only multi-hitting limit breaks were useful, aka. Cloud.... yea can't remember the rest) and obviously looks.

Not to mention, Knights of the Round + Mimic *billiontimes = GG.

Now I thoroughly enjoyed it back in the day, but that was back in the day.

Was thinking about it until I read there was DRM... Thats a no go. Not gonna REpay for a game I already bought and still have for PC and not be able to install it on multiple machines.

That being said, so how do I use my old PC CD version of this game to play on modern PCs?

Huh, that was what I LIKED about it! I loved the implementation of Materia and everything else you mentioned. Those were the things that made it the best FF to me. Plus the story.

Everyone had diff HP, MP ect so that doesn't make any sense at all. Materia was one of the best systems if not the best IMO. Hoping for a real remake of this game with DLC ect.

Btw, Square had even admitted that they haven't surpassed ff7 with following games and refuse to make the remake until they do.
