Yes you have to have gold to use Netflix and Hulu but there are ways around that. Why should you have to pay the monthly Netflix, Hulu, etc fees plus buy gold? You don't have to. You guys should take a look at software called PlayOn. You can try it free for two weeks, all you need is the software installed on a decent computer on your network and a media streamer such as your Xbox. PlayOn is way better than Netflix and Hulu because it had dozens of tv networks available with prerecord shows. You can also visit PlayOn plugins.com and download custom made "scripts/channels" and some are live TV! You can buy PlayOn monthly, yearly, or for life. I have it and am never looking back. No cable bills here, only pay for internet. Lots of people don't know about this unfortunately.

This is a solid deal, but if you aren't going to play any games online and only plan on using the gold subscription for video streaming then you may want to look at a Roku deal instead.
