For the same reason that some drive a porsche 911 vs a Nissan Versa. Past basic functions there are qualities that some of us desire. I respect the fact that all you want from a watch is to show you approximate time but some others desire style and quality.
I do own HiFi speakers. To the person who cant tell the difference between a Polk monitor 70 and B&W 800 Diamonds the 26K price difference is a waste of money , to me its worth every penny. You cant say that Im wrong. If Polk Monitor 70 makes you happy , Its great but it neither makes me wrong nor you can accuse me that i have more money than sense.

Terrible analogy to compare it autos. There's vast performance differences between those two cars. Both watches just tell time, one doesn't necessarily do it any faster though the cheapo quartz will tend to be more accurate though.

But in the end there are differences and if you want a watch to last a few decades then you pay for that craftsmanship. If that's not a concern to you then just get a cheapo watch.

The problem with Rolex is that every time I see someone wearing one I automatically think it's a fake. Probably the most "faked" watch out there.

On a personal note, I have an Omega Speedmaster that I bought in the Army Exchange (!). I've worn it daily for a couple decades. In all that time, no one has noticed nor complemented me on it. I still like it though.

Funny, I was going to write some smarmy remark about this and after reading all the posts came to my senses. I'm not rich so this looks like something silly to me, but at the same time I own a Mountain bike that costs over 5K. Is it 3K better than a 2K Mountain bike? No probably not, as price goes up the return on your $ pays for ever smaller increments of quality and performance. Honestly though that bike was worth every penny to me, it's just a dream to ride.

So for all you watch folks out there, thanks for the education (Watches and my own nonsensical personal perceptions). Enjoy them! and Merry Christmas to all.

This thread reminds me of the MB closeout on their previous e-class models thread in 2009. Some people get what this site is about and some people don't. That being said, i like watches, but that thing is so ugly. What's with the hideous number font?

ever seen rolex go on sale? Breitling is too mainstream now i spend my money somewhere else. There are some nice breitlings in the vintage market (like navitimers), they are nice and actually collectable at this point, i'd pass on new models - they are too commercial, designed for dumb flashy money IMO.
