Just FYI - New discounts now showing when you Build a Bundle that drops the price down to $59.99 for the first two months, and then the normal $79.99 for months 3-24. Mine included the $300 gift card, $50 self install giftcard, and free hd set top box for life of account at this bundle price. See my post #42 on page 3 for explanation on how to get the bundle discount even if you are a current customer. - Bagginsworth

Agree with this poster. I did this in the past and it worked out perfectly. Verizon is almost completely unwilling to work out as good of a deal for an existing customer as they are for new customers.

So I originally had the service in my name only, I cancelled my services, went online and opened a new account in only my wifes name. Everything went through just like it normally would with no questions asked.

Now her contract is expiring and they are jacking up the price by $40 a month with all the credits expiring so I just initiated it again. Just had my wife call and cancel her account and I went back online and ordered a new bundle with my name only.

When you go online to sign up for the bundle, enter your address, it will ask if the services are yours, so no, then it will ask if the original services are remaining or if you are replacing the current services, say that the original owner is moving out and you are starting new services there.

That's all there is to it.

I just ordered my new $79.99 Fios triple play bundle, it came with the $300 visa card, and also a free hd set top box for the life of the account. The DVR is going to cost $20 a month, so I am going to look into a HDHomerun box so I can return it.

My new services are being activated in the next few days, but I don't anticipate any problems just like last time. I'll come back and update if there are any glitches this time around, but that is how I have gone around it in the past.

I have no moral dilemma about doing this because they should hook you up for signing a new 2 year agreement and they are terrible about providing good deals to existing customers.

Good luck
-Matt

Also, FYI, when you order like this and the FIOS service is already installed at your residence, just select "Self Install" during your order and you will get $50 "Merchant" gift card along with your order. No idea what "merchant" it is, as I just ordered my service, but no point in having a technician come to the house anyways since everything is already set up and ready to go, just a matter of switching out the set top boxes they are sending with the new service and sending the old ones back with the "old" account.
Thank for the info. Do you have any idea how can I save my current phone number and transfer it to the new account under the new name?
P.S. How did you get the 2 months free? I'm trying to build a bundle and it doesn't give me this option. Maybe it's something that based on areas? I live in LA

That makes some sense. AFAIK GV will only port from a cell # so if that is an issue I would just get the cheapest pay as you go cell to port over the home # to and then port back to the new fios acct. Other choice is to port from the cell to GV and then never have to worry again as you can have GV ring whatever new fios #'s you get in future years plan switch with whatever provider.
Others have said if you keep your old verizon account active, once your new one is installed with a new number, give Verizon a call to port over the old number to your new fios digital voice account. Once the port is successful, you can go ahead and cancel the older service. What I did was port my old number to a prepaid tmobile activation sim (was $1 from tmobile, good for 30 days and 10min) that I had using an old phone. As soon as the new Verizon service was installed I had it ported over.
As you said, Google voice is also another alternative, since you can direct that number to ring any other number. I think they charge $20 or 25 for porting?

Is this deal available for existing customers not under a current contract?

Anyone who has signed up for a new service under their spouse's name... were you able to, or did you try, to use the same email address that you had registered under your old account?

So let me get this straight:
1)Sign up for the new account to get the promo but keep the old one active
2)Once the new account is installed and ready to go, call Verizon and port the old number over
3)Cancel the old account when the old number is ported over to the new account

Am I correct? I dont need to use T-mobile prepaid or GV like you said in your message?

How do you know? Is it by Fios speed test?

Thanks

go to DC with your army of lobbyists and get the law changed to offer more competition in your area, because Verizon is doing just the opposite. This way consumers won't have to lie and cheat.

T-mobile does not allow call forwarding on prepaid accounts the last time I checked and Pageplus charge by the minute for call forwarding.
You are confused or not following me - I am proposing using a cheapo pay as you go to preserve your home # (open/start a cheap pay-go acct. then port in your home # that you want to keep). Once the new acct. w/fios starts you can port the pay-go # (which is now your old home #) to the new fios acct. or you can choose to port your home # to GV. Then get rid of the pay-go.

If you port home # to GV you can have your settings in GV to ring any # you want when someone calls it so it can ring your home # (now doesn't matter what your home # is), cell, office, friends house if you are at a friends house w/no cell service (I have done this), wherever you want or you can set it to go straight to VM for a "do not disturb" night Wink

Now I'm not sure, last I heard GV will only port from a cell but if they now will port directly from fios then you could elininat the whole pay-go step. Don't know.

Anyway it will work, a little effort and some expense (maybe $30?) but can be done, no problem and you don't need the cell to forward anything except maybe for a day or two if you absolutly can't do w/o the home # for a day or two.

I hope I haven't confused this even more for you.

Exactly what I was saying re using a pay-go to hold your old #.

I guess poster zzzz did not get what I was saying.

The other method would be a lot simpler - just overlap the accts. for a few days or a week and port from old fios acct to new fios acct. Did not read that people had done it sucessfully.

I have two t-mo sim kits sitting around so I'd probably just give one up to my relative and do it that way, seems safer to me.

I thought GV charge for porting was $10

That would be simple and great if it works. Would love to hear from a few people who did it this way successfully.

They ask for it but it's not required. However they do a credit check which a non existent person won't pass. If you don't provide a SSN then they call you and you have to provide the info needed for a creidt check via fax/usps.
If you fail the credit check they will require a substantial deposit on the equipment which I have heard is a pain in the ass to get back.

Ditto, I gave Cablevision (Optimum) a try twice over the past several years. Although fios costs me a bit more, I had to go back to it for superior tv experience and reliable Internet connectivity and speeds. In NY, Optimum and time warner for that matter has definitely improved significantly since competition came knocking through their monopoly comfort zones. Let's hope for the consumer's sake that they all continue to improve their services.
They have improved in the internet and phone areas but absolutely not at all on the TV front.

Actually, if you read the previous thread you would have seen that Verizon CSR themselves were suggesting this method to resign up as a new customer to get current package rates.

From FIOS I currently get extreme hd + showtime & couple other movie channels + 35/35 and pay about 95$ month which includes all taxes and everything.

I rent a cable card for my tv card connected to my windows media center pc which is dvr and everything, and tether xbox mce to other TV in house which saves about another 30$ month
