Just FYI - New discounts now showing when you Build a Bundle that drops the price down to $59.99 for the first two months, and then the normal $79.99 for months 3-24. Mine included the $300 gift card, $50 self install giftcard, and free hd set top box for life of account at this bundle price. See my post #42 on page 3 for explanation on how to get the bundle discount even if you are a current customer. - Bagginsworth

I absolutely HATE fios!

...because they are not available in my area!

When it first came out I signed up for their email notification when it would be available in my area.(Easter Long Island, NY) Been waiting years and years and then found out they are no longer expanding! UGGH!

So now I'm stuck Optimum online as they will continue to have a monopoly in my area. Optimum is SOOO frustrating because the signal constantly drops. Constantly going in and out. And since it's a shared bandwidth can really slow at peak times. And I even pay extra for their "optimum boost"

Fios would be a god send to not have to deal with constant drops anymore. Plus would save a lot of money too, at least the first 2 years. AND get a $300 gift card! This is a fantastic deal. So jealous I can't get it.
totally agree, except my only option in Nashville is Comcast and I have the exact same issues, Comcast customer service is the absolute worst, mostly because you're talking to people in Pakistan - half the time they can't even find my account! I need someone else in the area to break up the monopoly

What's ridiculous too is how much we pay for the internet here in the U.S. AND get sh*tty service on top of that! Other countries get quality high speed net for dirt cheap. It's extremely frustrating, particularly considering how important the internet/digital data is in this day and age

I had Comcast for almost 10 years before switching to FiOS when it became available. There is a definite improvement in quality. Its worth the price.

Verizon is good. But when your bill goes up and down by 3-5 dollars every month, you'd know how frustrating this is. Especially after your contract is over. If the equiptment hasnt been checked out by them(You have to mail it to them and they have to inspect them) before the due date, you will pay for an extra FULL MONTH even if they recieved the items before the due date(I guess theyre lazy to inspect them). I didn't know it'd take 6 business days for them after they recieved the devices to get them inspected.
Never again verizon
This.

Verizon never logged in my equipment after I mailed it in. I didn't find out until 3 months later when they put me in collections! After several weeks of arguing with them, they finally located the equipment - they had already given out to new customers! They were trying to bill me over $1,200. It was an absolute nightmare dealing with them.

Mind if I ask how much more over 79.99 they are charging? I'd imagine it's a bunch of taxes.

I have standard verizon phone for $39 and almost $14 of that is in taxes (~35%) each month which is crazy ........
I also find the advertised totals very misleading, but it seems to be the order of the day no matter what you're buying.

In this case, even though the package includes HD channels, you need to pay extra to get a HD set-top box($5.99 extra/month). I can understand additional monthly rent if you want a DVR, but asking additional money for a HD set-top box equates to this - Budget Airlines - Funny [youtube.com]

Taxes & fees are extra and also apply to the add-ons like the DVR. I have the $74.99 double play with 25/15 internet and I pay around $7 (~10%) in taxes & fees every month. I returned my DVR when they raised the monthly rent from $15 to $20. I am thinking of getting a personal DVR with a one-time investment so that I don't have to deal with all this gouging.

Yeah they give you a bit more it seams. I pay for 35/35, but I get 43/40. It's funny because they offer a 50 down package for 10 more a month.

Fios is expensive, but I'm happy with the service. Clean HD picture and fast internet. My main box did crap out on me before, but they came the next day, which was a sunday, to fix it so I think their customer service is good also.

Yeah I had a similar issue, the installer took my old boxes and said he'd handle it. I kept getting calls asking when I was going to turn in my equipment. I kept telling them that the installer took it. It didn't go to collections, but it took a good 2 months for them to finally acknowledge that they got it.

I told the rep I would do that and he said they do it by address and I would have to have the service off for like 60 days to be considered a new customer.
They only way to get the best deals is to be willing to switch services. I've done it several times between Cablevision and Verizon. I switched back to Cablevision last year because they gave me tv/phone/internet for $85/month for 2 years (a great rate in NJ), plus a year of Starz, plus a free DVR for a year, plus a free 8GB Ipod Touch.

I switched to cablevision, too!
Even after Sandy, they gave me a free month as courtesy for not having cable for 2 weeks.
Mine is $105 after tax for 3 HD settop boxes with sports package(plus free spanish package), 25/15 internet and voice. Didn't want HBO because i don't like HBO

I agree you got to play them like they play us, I had to haggle every year with Charter to get a better deal, switched to Verizon and now they (Charter) offer me way better deals then I had.

I canceled and opened in my wife's name
Agree with this poster. I did this in the past and it worked out perfectly. Verizon is almost completely unwilling to work out as good of a deal for an existing customer as they are for new customers.

So I originally had the service in my name only, I cancelled my services, went online and opened a new account in only my wifes name. Everything went through just like it normally would with no questions asked.

Now her contract is expiring and they are jacking up the price by $40 a month with all the credits expiring so I just initiated it again. Just had my wife call and cancel her account and I went back online and ordered a new bundle with my name only.

When you go online to sign up for the bundle, enter your address, it will ask if the services are yours, so no, then it will ask if the original services are remaining or if you are replacing the current services, say that the original owner is moving out and you are starting new services there.

That's all there is to it.

I just ordered my new $79.99 Fios triple play bundle, it came with the $300 visa card, and also a free hd set top box for the life of the account. The DVR is going to cost $20 a month, so I am going to look into a HDHomerun box so I can return it.

My new services are being activated in the next few days, but I don't anticipate any problems just like last time. I'll come back and update if there are any glitches this time around, but that is how I have gone around it in the past.

I have no moral dilemma about doing this because they should hook you up for signing a new 2 year agreement and they are terrible about providing good deals to existing customers.

Good luck
-Matt

Also, FYI, when you order like this and the FIOS service is already installed at your residence, just select "Self Install" during your order and you will get $50 "Merchant" gift card along with your order. No idea what "merchant" it is, as I just ordered my service, but no point in having a technician come to the house anyways since everything is already set up and ready to go, just a matter of switching out the set top boxes they are sending with the new service and sending the old ones back with the "old" account.

So when do they turn off your old account ? Are you without service until your new set top boxes arrive?

I might try this, having the account in my wife's name from mine.
