Just FYI - New discounts now showing when you Build a Bundle that drops the price down to $59.99 for the first two months, and then the normal $79.99 for months 3-24. Mine included the $300 gift card, $50 self install giftcard, and free hd set top box for life of account at this bundle price. See my post #42 on page 3 for explanation on how to get the bundle discount even if you are a current customer. - Bagginsworth

totally agree, except my only option in Nashville is Comcast and I have the exact same issues, Comcast customer service is the absolute worst, mostly because you're talking to people in Pakistan - half the time they can't even find my account! I need someone else in the area to break up the monopoly
I live in Nashville also, I don't have those issues with Comcast. If they seem to drag their feet on an issue I threaten to cancel and that moves things along smoothly. I've never had to deal with a call going to Pakistan.....

Matt - thanks for posting the info. I'm so fed up w/ the cost of my FIOS. I had the original deal too... now its back up to $140 or so... Had a free DVR for life, 1 extra set box, and SHO is still on the account. Drives me nutz that new customers pay half. I can honestly say I had weekly issues w/ my Optimum service before this. I have not had ANY issues w/ FIOS and I work from home daily, remotely controlling my work PC. FIOS is the BEST service. I may actually have to try the disco process you show below.

How many days were you out of service from the time you cancelled your first service and replaced w/ the new one?

Is your wife's name different than yours??

Would love to make the swap like you did. I can't be out of service for more than a day or two...

Thanks again!! Rov

Agree with this poster. I did this in the past and it worked out perfectly. Verizon is almost completely unwilling to work out as good of a deal for an existing customer as they are for new customers.

So I originally had the service in my name only, I cancelled my services, went online and opened a new account in only my wifes name. Everything went through just like it normally would with no questions asked.

Now her contract is expiring and they are jacking up the price by $40 a month with all the credits expiring so I just initiated it again. Just had my wife call and cancel her account and I went back online and ordered a new bundle with my name only.

When you go online to sign up for the bundle, enter your address, it will ask if the services are yours, so no, then it will ask if the original services are remaining or if you are replacing the current services, say that the original owner is moving out and you are starting new services there.

That's all there is to it.

I just ordered my new $79.99 Fios triple play bundle, it came with the $300 visa card, and also a free hd set top box for the life of the account. The DVR is going to cost $20 a month, so I am going to look into a HDHomerun box so I can return it.

My new services are being activated in the next few days, but I don't anticipate any problems just like last time. I'll come back and update if there are any glitches this time around, but that is how I have gone around it in the past.

I have no moral dilemma about doing this because they should hook you up for signing a new 2 year agreement and they are terrible about providing good deals to existing customers.

Good luck
-Matt

Also, FYI, when you order like this and the FIOS service is already installed at your residence, just select "Self Install" during your order and you will get $50 "Merchant" gift card along with your order. No idea what "merchant" it is, as I just ordered my service, but no point in having a technician come to the house anyways since everything is already set up and ready to go, just a matter of switching out the set top boxes they are sending with the new service and sending the old ones back with the "old" account.

You do know that Cablevision headquarters is in the US(NJ and NY-Long island) and their techs work 24/7.
Truthfully, theyve changed a lot from when before FIOS showed up in the area. Right now, I dare say they are MUCH better than Verizon at a lesser price. And their customer service is really good, giving deals to existing customers.
It's funny how things change once you have competition in your area haha

I got this deal except for $74.xx a couple of weeks ago. I built the package by selecting each plan (voice/data/tv) instead of the pre-selected triple play package. In addition I opted for self installation since the previous owner of the house has an existing fios installation. With self-installation, verizon gave me $100 gift card instead of the advertised $50 which I redeemed for amazon gc.

I just overlapped the services so it would never actually shut off.

I had the new service starting on the 21'st and the old service shutting off on the 24'th.

They state that it's the "previous owners" responsibility to call and cancel the old service, so they arn't like cross checking to see that 2 services are going to the same residence at the same time. Or at least that is how it has worked out for me so far.

Same last name as well, but they just look at account #'s and order #'s so they have never even asked me about it. If they do, I am going to say I lived with my sister (lol) and that she is moving out so I am activating new services under my name.

Hope that helps.

Nah.
They have new settop boxes. It's just as fast as fios with their new firmware.
Before, it'd take like 10-15 seconds to show the tv guide. Now it's instantaneous

I did something similar last year. I canceled the service under my name Chuong Nguyen. Create new order under my dad name Che Nguyen. I select option something like new move in. They called to verify, I told them Chuong Nguyen is the house owner, new customer "Me Smilie" Che Nguyen is renting the house. And they approved the order, it was an upgrade from Internet & TV before to Triple play, also got the visa gift card. Called in after the installation finished 2 days to cancel the old one. No break in service.
I plan to do the same thing next year, FIOS service is so reliable. Only bad thing is the cost will definitely go up after contract ends.
Good luck!

Excellent post. Thanks for "Self install" tip. It was awkward for me to explain to the technician coming to my house last year.

Here is a link to the old thread with tons of helpful information. If you want more info regarding possibly saving an additional $20 a month shoot me a PM. Also, any talk of a referral credit in this thread will most likely be deleted (as it was in the past thread) as that is not allowed on this site. OP you might want to modify your post or a MOD might do it for you.

Not everyone can do a self install (even if they have the Fios hardware in their house already) but it is still worth a shot. When I did my self install I think it might have been a regular $50 amex card that they sent me.

Just FYI,

I just logged on to the fios "Build your bundle" screen to check out pricing and they just added a new promotion. It's called the FIOS TV challenge credit and knocks a mimimum of $20 off the price for the first two months. You can actually select any of the TV packages including the Fios Extreme that comes with Showtime and some other premium stations for free and it is completely covered by this new credit making it worth upwards of $55 for the first two months. Keep in mind it will auto adjust after the two months to the original cost of whatever tv package you select.

Also if you select 75/35 for your internet speed and FIOS Extreme for your tv package, the Visa Gift card amount bumps up to $500.
-Matt

Brings that $79.99 package down to $59.99 for the first 2 months, and then $79.99 for months 3-24 of the contract.

I saw this offer also. I called to bitch (nicely) about Time Warner's $3.95 fee for "renting" their modem. I did say that we were considering Fios. Well, I was lucky with this rep, she put me on hold for a couple of minutes and came back with an offer of $129 a month if we agreed to a year's contract. Our bill had been over $200 at that time. I said sure and MANY thanks!

I did the self installation few weeks ago. The ad said get $50 merchant gift card but in the confirmation email it said $100 merchant giftcard. I did received the $100 redemption code few days after activating the service. There are several choices from local to online retailers such as Home Depot, Gap, Amazon, etc. You can redeem/break the code for multiple merchants.
