Yeah I believe they call it basic and that is a steady speed. They actually boosted the speed to that level for that service here about a year/year and a half or so ago. Then a couple months later they boosted the price as well. No promos in my area unless I bundle and that's not happening. We tried that and the quality of the cable tv blew chunks and they gave us ancient equipment that was giving us HDCP handshake issues so cancelled that right away.

And for my family and many in my area TWC is the only game in town. My choice on internet service is dial-up (no DSL due to being slightly out of range for that), Hughes-net, or TWC. So stuck with them.

I have no options where I live but these scumbags, and nothing they offer is free. It'll come back around elsewhere, my bill just went up another $16 and a "promotion" didn't just end. They just raised prices, and added a $4/month charge for a modem lease, for a modem I've had for 3 years now

Side notes you can get the TWC discount if you have other internet choices in you area
If your only choice is TWC you are out of luck, they will not lower your monthly service charge.

i agree the SB5101 is good enough for standard and slower.

for anything above the SB6141 is good.

the SBG6580 is modem + router, BUT ideally you want your router separate so you can control it more (i.e. dd-wrt). also, the SBG6580 has had port issues only allowing all or none to be open.

i have heard in the past that twc starts to raise your bill gradually towards the end of your contract so as to not shock you so much when your promo is over.

Ran the test again and got D/L speed is 25.32 and U/L is 0.98

Do I have to exchange the modem and get the DOCSIS 3.0 one?

Or better question is how I get 15/1?

Sure. I have their triple play and then I was paying $9.95 for turbo upgrade (search triple play...it's like 89.95 for phone/net/tv). Btw, for those of you that hate TWC, I don't like them either. They bend over backwards for new customers, but screw you once you're a customer. The way around this is to cut one of their services for 30 days. So, let's say you have triple play but your 2 years are up. Cancel TV during summer (when shows are crap anyway) for 30 days). Then re-sign up for triple play and get new customer prices for 2 years.

your area may not have been upgraded yet. since you have powerboost with standard, there is no way for you to tell if your area has been upgraded or not, other then calling twc and asking. btw, that webstar is a DOCSIS 2.0.
