Wrong. There are two non-soldered RAM slots. There is no reason why it wouldn't support up to 16GB of compatible memory. It seems that most manufacturers just tend to be conservative, given that 8GB single modules are still new. They may use it as a tactic to avoid hardware support if you do happen to install a personal kit, and it doesn't happen to function properly.

Last time I tried 2 years ago, lenovo does not allow additional discounts once you use a coupon through phone. But, this price is as good as when it was cheapest on Blackfriday. Best you can get for the specs. Be weary that once your warranty expire, the support can become questionable and slow, but for the price, you really have no right to complain

I've asked and they told me 8GB is max so I am just repeating what they told me. You can try to put 16GB in there if you want.

hmmm, does this version not have a backlit keyboard?

Yeah, I know someone who went through the same deal with Dell on one of their business class machines. Dell's site showed that 8GB was the limit. My friend pointed out that the chipset should support 16GB and asked if it was really only limited to 8GB, or if they had only validated up to 8GB. Dell swore it would only work with 8GB. So he bought a 16GB kit and installed it, and it worked. Go figure. Support isn't going to hint at anything that they haven't validated, because they don't want to be on the hook for something that hasn't been officially sanctioned.

I wonder if they would let me get an employee discount (my employer has a deal with them) and then take the coupon? This looks pretty similar to the W520 I have from work, with a slightly more consumer-oriented build. Price is smoking, but these things are large and heavy at nearly 1.5" thick and almost 6 pounds.

Well, that is your call. I doubt that will happen anytime soon, if ever. There's a reason why it isn't already available. Microsoft wants you to use their Metro/Modern UI, and to purchase apps from their store. This app is still mostly using Microsoft-developed files, wrapping the Windows 7 explorer.exe to run in Windows 8.
