For those trying to stack their personalized $ off coupons with Mastercard: Giftcards are excluded from the minimum $ requirement, unfortunately!

From the FAQ:
For offers that have a Minimum Purchase Requirement, what purchases are excluded?
Excluded Purchases are: The purchase price of the promotional item, Beer, Wine, Spirits, Tobacco Products, Fuel, All Fluid Items in the Refrigerated Dairy Section (including Fluid Dairy and Dairy Substitutes), Prescription Items and Co-payments, Bus/Commuter Passes, Fishing/Hunting Licenses and Tags, Postage Stamps, Money Orders, Money Transfers, Ski Tickets, Amusement Park Tickets, Event Tickets, Lottery Tickets, Phone Cards, Gift Cards, and Gift Certificates; also excluded are: Bottle Deposits, Redemption Values, and Sales Tax.

I don't see a way to apply for the club card online... You have to bring an application to the store

I bought iTunes and Lowes yesterday combined with a $4/$40 personalized coupon I had on one card and the register did take off $4 when I bought at least $4 of grocery. I used self checkout so I could see the discounts come off as I scanned the gift cards and grocery items. Safeway likes to change these type of deals midway so there's a chance that this may no longer apply. I do know that any prepaid cards such as Visa, MC, Amex and store gift cards will not work. Regular gift cards such as iTunes, Lowes, Staples, etc do seem to count towards the purchase requirement.

I have a $3 off $30 J4U coupon loaded to my account. Yesterday I bought a $25 Vons GC and added over $5 worth of food to get my total over $30. The $3 coupon did not get applied. This was at a regular checkout - none of the stores in my area have self-checkout.

All the Von's(Safeway) I go to in SoCal let you buy gift cards with a credit card. Competitive market I guess. Same for Albertsons.

You can just sign up online using a phone number. And once you check out, give your phone number to the Safeway cashier, and they'll apply the discount.

I live in S CA and the Vons I went to said I had to pay cash for Mastercard and Visa but regular gift cards I could pay with credit card
