With the new unlocking ban into effect, will it affect those in Virgin mobile? For example for these One Vs that were bought in the Radioshack offer. The information is still fuzzy, some say its okay for phone bought before today while some say its only okay if you ask your carrier first. However, for Virgin mobile we pay the full price of the phone, so is it legal/illegal now to flash it to pageplus?

According to this:
https://www.federalregister.gov/a...ntrol#h-17 Sounds to me like all new phones purchased before this date and for 90-days afterwards are exempt from the unlocking ban. I saw no distinction made for phones purchased without contract, so I would interpret that as the ban applying to prepaid phones too. The point of the law is to protect the cellular industry from loss of revenue, and VM does lose revenue if these phones get flashed to P+ so it's easy to come to conclusion that this ban covers prepaid phones as well. |

Hmm...even in the news there is mention of big carriers which offer subsidized postpaid, however, there is no mention of prepaid carriers. For Virgin mobile we pay the price of the cell phone upfront, so I am confused if it applies if we flash it to PP.

The news outlets and even the exemption itself are not completely clear on this point. Some report it that you had to both purchase the phone AND unlock it in the 90 day period (which ended on 1/26/13), while others are saying that you simply had to buy the phone before the 90 day grace period (which ended on 1/26/13). If anyone has a definitive answer on this, I'd appreciate it. Last edited by jimboman78; 01-28-2013 at 01:21 PM.. |

Here are the conditions. (3) Computer programs, in the form of firmware or software, that enable a wireless telephone handset originally acquired from the operator of a wireless telecommunications network or retailer no later than ninety days after the effective date of this exemption to connect to a different wireless telecommunications network, if the operator of the wireless communications network to which the handset is locked has failed to unlock it within a reasonable period of time following a request by the owner of the wireless telephone handset, and when circumvention is initiated by the owner, an individual consumer, who is also the owner of the copy of the computer program in such wireless telephone handset, solely in order to connect to a different wireless telecommunications network, and such access to the network is authorized by the operator of the network. |

So, I'm stuck on this. I had the phone working on Pageplus on it's own number but when I tried to bring over my old number on another pageplus device. It now has no service. CDMA workshop can not find the device and I believe I turned off diagnostic mode. I can't dial ##3424# without service. I'm not using the same pc I was before though. The phone does not have a com port, it shows up under disk drives instead on this laptop. Any advice?
