would be a deal if it were a 840 PRO. I must be missing something, cause when I saw Newegg's email for this a few minutes ago, I started laughing thinking what a crummy deal! This would be something to jump on if it were between $60 and $70. At $100 -- NO WAY. It's like a $40 premium for including a bracket. lol

Newegg can keep their coupon code. Out!

It's been on sale for as low as $90 on Amazon, currently $99.17. This isn't a great deal, but how is it crummy? How do you figure it should only be $60-70? Just trolling?

The price of solid state drives is definitely trending down at the moment. At the same time you are moving into after-Xmas sales. Recent good deals on quality ssd's (and many here would tell you the 840 is of disappointing quality, btw -- no where near as good as 830's which you could have found listed here a few weeks ago for less than this) has them showing up at or very near 50 cents a gb with rebates, and roughly 60-65 cents a gb without rebates. That included some of the Intel 330's last week, clearly a superior drive to the 840. It also included some recent Verbatim listings, which is arguably equal to, or maybe even better than the 840, as well as some listings for Sandisk Extreme at around the very same price.

Further, I've seen recent 840 Pro listings for around the 90 cent a gb range, which brings us close to what Newegg would like you to shell out here.... 83 cents a gb. So yeah, for those reasons I'd say this deal looks crummy to me. In fact, it doesn't look like any kind of a deal at all. Amazon had this for $105 this morning before Newegg's email announcing their sale had even come out -- so Newegg's 5 bucks off hardly looks like much of an offer. If you disagree, that's fine, but don't start characterizing people with name calling. It's unpleasant and unnecessary.

Nope, sorry. My basis of judgment on whether or not this is a good deal is that other drives, (last gen, but still better...) have been as low as $60-$75. Who would anyone pay more per GB for an inferior drive, just because it's the newest model?

Even the 840 PRO at this price would be a stupid purchase, considering that good drives have regularly been going at $0.50-0.60 per GB.

I got the 500GB Samsung 840 for $300. So, for my general SSD-buying rule, this point forward I will never buy a SSD for any more than $0.60/GB. I suggest everyone else do something similar so we can all enjoy a continued drop in prices.

There have been so many SSD deals for 160-180GB for good reliable models on sale in the $70-90AR range, any 120gb for more than $70 is never a good deal. Im still waiting for another intel 330 180gb for $70AR again like theyve had it in the past.
