I own an HT-S5300, basically 2 years older than this one. Been working fine for last couple of years. I paid pretty much the same price as this when I bought mine, so this is a good deal.
Sorry I can't speak to the quality of the 5500 model. |

I paid $400 for this system a few months ago. Overall the system is great and at $250 its a steal. My sub did die after about 2 months. Got it repaired under warranty and it haven't any issues since. Really happy with my purchase would have been even happier if I could have got it at $250.

Even with the sub, this is a great deal. Use the sub until it blows and then go buy a BIC F12 for $150. The upgrade to the F12 is so damn good that you'll understand that the speakers + receiver alone for $254 is a great deal.
Edit: Seriously people... consider the included sub as a freebie/throwaway. |

This is FP worthy imo... I have this system, paid $400 for it. I originally had issues, but then made sure everything was on a strong surge protector and have yet to have any issues to speak of, although occasionally (once every few weeks) the AVR will turn off for no reason; not a big problem, I just turn it back on.
Speakers are good, center speaker could use some improvement. Subwoofer is good. AVR is excellent, just missing some features that Onkyo's higher end models have (wifi music streaming over android). Basically, you are NOT going to get a better entry level setup even close to this price. I paid $400 and even then I thought it was a pretty decent system for the price. If you wanted more bang you would have to buy everything separately on sale and it would come out to about $500 for a 5.1 system. This system rings in at $250 and everything works great. |

This refurb was front page like 6months ago for less than $200 right? I went home from my brothers which was a 5min drive and it sold out. I didn't know there were issues but I guess refurb would be better as issue would or should've been fixed.
