I started with onkyo setup both receiver and speaker. But once I upgraded to Harman Kardon receiver (AVR 254 and HKTS 18) and speakers, I never recommended onkyo to anybody. Onkyo do come up with lot of features than other mfr. BTW I ordered a second receiver today Denon AVR 1513 from amzaon for $199 to pair it with my Infinity primus speaker in basement (NYE 2013 party). I was thinking of getting the yamaha RX-V371BL ($169). My must have feature was standby HDMI pass through. But ultimately decided on the denon. There was an onkyo one too available for $169 with internet radio feature. I have spotify premium (which I stream via WDTV SMP). But Onkyo never excited me.

The 7.1 kit I got from shoponkyo last year is going strong and I am happy with it. I remember it was after Christmas that the pricing hit the sweet spot for me at about $300 and the site actually working. I am sitting back and watching how things are playing out this year before pulling the trigger on a discretionary bedroom upgrade. Good to see Amazon putting the heat on. If Onkyo drops to beat it will be good times. |

I purchased a different ONKYO last year (thanks to slickdeals.net). It was a refurb unit and have been using it for over one year now. I must say I am very impressed with that unit so far.
Having said that I know this is a different unit and apparently has SW issues. Still ended up biting the bullet - I like the USB option which the previous one did not have. |

I think i got the same one, don't remember the model number but it was around that price and looks like the 5500.. but i think it's the 5400 and i'm pretty sure i have a USB port. I have no problems at all, some people are complaining the subwoofer doesn't turn on because of "power saving" what people don't understand is the subwoofer on this won't turn one unless it's necessary. For example turn your volume up and there's more bass so the subwoofer will always be on but when your volume is really low you don't want the subwoofer to work as it'll just distort the clear low audio. I don't know if this is the reason some people are complaining but i saw one review about that. |

17 1/8" x 5 7/8" x 12 15/16" Roughly the same size as any normal receiver. This system is solid. I purchased it for our church to use as their stereo for the youth ministry class and it is plenty loud and clear. Should work perfect for a living room or den. The receiver gets really hot but that should be expected as all Onkyo I have seen. |
