Not sure whether this belongs to hot deals section but it's free after all. Mod, feel free to move to a more proper place.

There are several free VOIP solutions such as grooveip lite but they all suffer from bad quality on 3g. I found a clever way to make free and reliable internet (VOIP) calls even on 3g mobile data. I posted the full instruction on XDA forum.

It's complicated but it's how I can get great call quality on 3g data. I'm relying on VOIP 100% as I disabled Google Voice forwarding to my cell number.

Now I'm paying $30/m for 2000 minutes and 5GB data.

Happy Holidays!

PS: Please do not suggest Groove IP or talkatone. Theoretically, these work on 3g but in real life, it's not usable. If you can get great call quality using these apps, then consider yourself extremely lucky.

After following OP's sipdroid/pbxes/GV/callcentric/csipsimple method I am back to square one: GrooveIP/GV. I did not see any improvement, but drawbacks are many. Just wasted several hours.

I think have lots of missing pieces of the puzzle. I have an activated android phone. I have 300 minutes/mo (prepaid). If I ran out of my monthly minutes, how can I make free wifi/3G calling? I thought Google Voice would take care of it, but seems like I'm wrong.

I have Google Voice app installed. I have GrooVe IP already and used it until my phone was activated. GrooVe IP no longer works because my phone is activated.

What are other options? Any suggestion is very much appreciated and repped

thanks very much for the xda instruction. Inbound calls to my google voice to CSipSimple on my handset works well. However, I have problem making outbound calls. I use CSipSimple to dial out, and it error with "It cannot be completed as dialed. Please call again later". Looking at call long it tried dialing mynumber@pbxes.org.
Am I suppose to use CSipSimple to dial out? Did I config something incorrectly?

The calls I receive has gone down dramatically. People just text me now because my call quality was so spotty most of the time.

I am on the T-Mobile $30 100minute plan, so now when I do have to call someone, I just pay $0.10/minute if I go over.

i tried it the other day over 4G connection and seemed to work fine. Little delay but was OK.

Assuming Google Voice will be gone. What's the free or low price option to get the best 3g voip calls?
