Deal Details

Not sure whether this belongs to hot deals section but it's free after all. Mod, feel free to move to a more proper place.

There are several free VOIP solutions such as grooveip lite but they all suffer from bad quality on 3g. I found a clever way to make free and reliable internet (VOIP) calls even on 3g mobile data. I posted the full instruction on XDA forum.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2057887

It's complicated but it's how I can get great call quality on 3g data. I'm relying on VOIP 100% as I disabled Google Voice forwarding to my cell number.

Now I'm paying $30/m for 2000 minutes and 5GB data.

Happy Holidays!

PS: Please do not suggest Groove IP or talkatone. Theoretically, these work on 3g but in real life, it's not usable. If you can get great call quality using these apps, then consider yourself extremely lucky.

Agreed. If you are on Sprint, you can forget about it.

I gave up Sprint SERO-P for $30 Tmo unlimited data plan. Should have done it sooner as I found out the Tmo data coverage is excellent in S. Florida.

dumping sero p was the best decision i made as well. Using an HTC amaze on tmobile $30 plan with groove ip
Thanks for this thread. I've been looking for a way to dump Sprint and find something comparable to SERO-P. This looks very promising.bounce

When using pbxes, seems like from time to time, I can't reconnect to it unless I reboot my phone. And I don't know if I am actually connect to pbxes unless I check, it is possible I may have missed call without knowing it.

This info has been around for a long time
I guess you are referring to this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1791957

But that one relies on speex codec. I tweaked that method to use iLBC, which is better than speex. In fact, iLBC is considered to be the best codec for mobile.

If there's an integrated solution that relies on iLBC, please show me.

Anyone know if Google Voice will still be free in 2013? Last year they posted the news on December 13, but this year there's no word and the year is almost over in one week. I wonder...

word is that it's a safe assumption that it'll be free. Anyone know a cheaper porting method to save my number from cricket instead of paying GV $20?
