transfers might not be perfect, but as far as some of those comparison caps from the dvdbeaver link Zappo provided, there's a lot of new detail in the Blu-Ray that's lost due to overblown contrast in the previous dvd versions. set was cheap enough that i picked it up and the reviews are generally favourable.
hopefully the Zatoichi series will start being released on Blu-Ray at some point. |

Yeh but look at the screenshots. I see it like this, is this an improvement over the dvds? Yes it is. Is it worth $16 even if the transfers are not 100% perfect? Yes it is. Are they likely to remaster these again anytime soon? Probably not until the next format of home movies comes out.

These are expensive to pick up normally and my husband doesn't care if the picture is up to the true standards of Blu-ray. We only have his old VHS tapes of the movies so this will be much better. This will be perfect for the moment. Fantastic price even if we have to wait for them to come back in stock!
In for 1 and repped! |

I received mine today and watched parts of the first disc.
As far as video quality goes since that seems to be the question on this set... is it a reference-quality disc? No. Is it completely watchable? 100% yes There is the issue of what some have listed as DNR but to me it looks like dust marks on the film it was transferred from. DNR would show little white dots possibly but this definitely looks like an issue with the film itself since I see different size white dots along with some darker dots/lines occasionally. It may take away from the experience a tiny bit but isn't too different than watching a film like the old days - I didn't find it too distracting. Just for reference, I watched it on 110" projector screen so video flaws are magnified. |
