1) "This is not a GSM device, it will not work on any GSM network worldwide."
2) screen resolution is only 320 x 480 |

Unactivated, consider it an "Android Touch" - just add a decent sized microSD card and load it up.
That said, it's a great phone - even moreso at $30. Replaced (4) Samsung Intercepts with these back on Black Friday - difference is like night and day. Only 2 complaints - the VM "Essentials ID" app that downloads and installs without your permission to give you access to pre-packaged apps, tones, and graphics - which I don't need. And there are no "<" or ">" symbols on the physical keyboard - and they aren't available on the "SYM" key, either. |

-I can recall the Samsung Exhibit II 4G brand new that went for $130+tax -GSM Sony Xperia U for $160 on Amazon -There was ONE time when T-mobile's upgrade system messed up and people were able to order the Motorola Defy for $50+tax WITHOUT using up an upgrade -- but this was a price mistake |

I got my LG Optimus T from T-mobile for $82 ( well it was refurbished and + $30 refill card but it was like new and I used the card ). The deal was last year - 09-20-2011. Very good deal for that time. With the prices of phones going down as fast as they do I would expect something much much better from T-mobile now in the same price range. |

My observations after playing with the Rise for a day.
The Rise has about the same processor/memory as the HTC One V. Both seem quick, especially when compared to my old phone (Optimus V). The screen resolution is better on the One V. I can barely notice the difference, especially since I turn down the brightness on all my phones to extend battery life. The camera is better on the One V (5 vs 3.2) HD videos that play on the One V with no problems seem to stutter on the Rise. Games like World of Goo play with no problems on both phones. When I scroll through websites on the One V there seems to be some lag, compared to no lag on the Rise. The Rise is heavier but seem sturdier compared to the One V. Many people say it's better to buy the One V for $20 more but if you're just using it as an "android touch" you might want to factor in the replaceable battery. Once the battery dies on the One V you are left with a semi-expensive paperweight. The Rise will still be working many years from now just by replacing the battery. And some might find the physical keyboard a bonus. Good phone/media device for $30. |

I actually found out about this deal from people who were posting comments on the youtube reviews for this phone while I was looking it up so thank you to those people. When I saw that it was only $30 right now I went to target last night and got one for my mom. Even the target sales guy couldn't believe how cheap it was. I canceled her t-mobile contract this morning as the early termination fee will be recovered in long-term savings.
I think it's a great phone for those who want the most bang for their buck. Android 4.0+ doesn't make you feel like you're starting behind the finish line. No bloatware on the phone slowing it down. Apps ran smoothly. GPS+Wifi+Network signals worked fine. Full qwerty keyboard is a good option to have for my mom since she will go through an adjustment phase with the on-screen "fingering" as she refers to it. Didn't test the camera but since it's only 3.2MP I'm not expecting anything stellar. Will comment on battery life later if anyone requests as today is the first day the phone is being used. And of course you get to keep your existing number with no activation charge+port fees on virgin which is always nice. Port process was automated online at the time of activation and I never had to speak to a customer service representative. For anyone on the fence about the phone or virgin mobile I say take the plunge. My own personal phone is also with virgin and I'm still running the grandfathered 25 dollar plan. Never had any problems with them. Last edited by khanvict; 12-27-2012 at 11:53 AM.. |
