NY Newspaper sparks outrage for publishing names, addresses of gun owners

I wonder if they will publish a list of all the women who had abortions .... at the very least those who had abortions paid for by my tax dollars.

Saying that a deranged man with an edged weapon, could easily kill a bunch of kindergartners or other unarmed victims, isn't the same as saying an edged weapon is an equally good weapon for defending yourself against an attacker, who may be armed with a gun or other weapon.

That would be another interesting one to see... MOF, there should be a list available to everyone to see who is on the government tit.

Anyone can see the property you own and how much you pay in taxes (used to actually have to do some work to get this info). Now gun owners- WTF?!?!

Given the continued support for an outright ban on all abortions, i doubt any less restrictive limitations would really be "new" ideas.

Why are FOIA requests only limited to permits submitted by private citizens?

Shouldn't they also include where money is spent, for what reason, to whose benefit or detriment, and who profits?

Transparency should be a good thing right?

Thats a FANTASTIC idea ... if you want to use taxpayers dollars for your abortion then a Government Issed permit should be part of the process.

Thanks Smeg ... I'll have to write my conservative congressman for my state. Mystate has issued a lot of new regs on abortions ... maybe I can get this added to the next round.

I can kind of understand why they did this but the bigger issue here is PRIVACY... (Now everyone is aware of WHO has one which might lead to other issues)

My position on guns are somewhat documented on this forum. It is likely that the 2nd guarantees some kinda right and that perhaps a well-regulated militia is a deterrent against a despotic government. I have said that I favor a total ban on the resale of all guns. I also support a traceable registration, requiring strict licencing, and banning high capacity mags and assault type weapons.

Having said that, I am not ready to endorse the newspaper's action. However, I have mixed emotions. I wonder how many of the people who are complaining about the newspaper's action would have agreed with requiring merely background checks in private sales? (Hence my mixed feelings.)
