Waffled on picking one up and it now seems to be dead, ah well.

Is this a better deal than the Harmony One Refurbish on Logitech site with VIP account?

I think that is the point. The new remotes like the 650 and 700 are not as durable as the older remotes. My older harmony 676 last well...it still mostly works after 6 years. The buttons are not as responsive as I would like anymore, but if I took it apart and rebuilt it I might expect two years more. I picked up a newer 650 as replacement and I would be impressed if it lasted three years.(I actually expect less than three) I would not feel too bad because... well I paid less for the 650, but to be the build quality is dramatically inferior. The IR is also inferior. I would glad pay what I paid for the 676 again, I am at best neutral on the 650 depending on its lifespan.

In the end to me the newer entry level units seem of lower quality. They are also priced lower.

Never had a single problem tossing my One around on the couch, or dropping it on the carpeted floor (knock on wood). As for the 880 being a superior remote, I had an 880 prior to getting a One and while the 880 was a good remote, the One is far superior both in feel and its better laid out and differentiated buttons. It also seems like the buttons will last longer than the 880's, which eventually stopped working for me. I do prefer the 880's physical buttons to the side of the screen rather than the One's less practical touch screen.

I've only played with the 700 in store and I would definitely choose it as a suitable replacement for the 880. But I'm more than happy with my One.

too cheap to buy an IR thingie and my big toe works just fine to turn on the computer and my subwoofer. Beyond that I wouldn't know what else to control with the controller nor do I want to as the mouse and keyboard work well enough for me.

XP300 for $99.99 is the cheapest I've seen. Passed on the $120 price during the holidays. Been waiting for it to go on sale under $100 since it came out. Great deal.
