Found the Recycling Truck and 2 Raptor Chase sets along with some baggies. Sadly my store didn't have the Monster Fighters sets on sale. They did have LOTR Weathertop on sale but I already scored one from Yoyo cheaper last week.
personally, I buy to collect, but theres a lot of resale potential of ANY lego thats 50%+ off, some make more than others but if you hold onto something for a few years after it retires, you will make a decent amount of money. Is it worth the trouble? Sometimes... most of the profit to be had is not instantaneous, although I bet you could make money off the minifigs right now at that price.
do you find these deals in a clearance section or other special location? or, are they on the usual shelves with a marked down price? do the price tags indicate they are marked down or do they just look like normal prices? just asking because last year I had a hard time finding anything that was on clearance... everything seemed to be at regular price (even when I took it to price scanner).
I think it depends on how fast the stores do this. When I got there at around 10am this morning. There were two clerks scanning each product and putting clearance tags out if it is a clearance item.
awesome, thanks, I added Friends Lego 3938 (Andrea's Bunny House): $7.00 (MSRP $9.99) from this list to the wiki :-)
I was surprised to find absolutely no lego friends set in any of my stores except the 1 I added to wiki earlier. And I got there shortly after opening so that means it was cleared out before christmas...
thank you op for this thread. i thought my trip to walmart would be a bust since i didn't see the thread until midday and didn't get to walmart until close to 3pm. i guess i lucked out though because when i got there, the shelves were practically bare save for some large lego sets and a few smaller lotr/star wars sets that weren't on sale... and one left of the lego city mining truck, the only set i came to walmart truly hoping to find. last month when amazon did their lego blackfriday sale, this item went live in the morning for $23, and i was kicking myself for missing that deal cuz i wanted it to go along with the lego city mine set i had gotten my son for xmas. can't help but smile when things work out like this!
I forgot to mention I also picked up Annakin & Sebulba's podracers for $34.50. This was a big score because we were at this very Walmart before Thanksgiving trying to price match this and the manager - who just my luck was checking out an aisle over about to go home - said no this is clearly NOT the same set in the Target ad and refused to price match. She told me to get the Ghost Train because she looked it up online and the ghost train was in the online ad. Clearly she had no idea the ghost train was actually ringing up for more. Anyway, long story short I was thrilled to get this for $34.50 because my son wanted it and I wasn't going to pay $80 for it. I imagine they are nearly cleared out of most Walmarts though from the Target pricematch.
glad to hear you got redemption on that podracers set. like you, i also got shot down when i tried to take advantage of the pricing error last month. the particular set was out of stock everywhere around me, no walmarts or TRUs had them any more, so i couldn't price match, and only 1 target in my area still had them in stock. i was probably there for a half hour talking to two different target csrs, and then finally the executive sales manager of the store. he said they couldn't honor the deal cuz they had already been in contact with corporate (this was early morning the day the deal went live too), and that it was indeed a price error. despite all my arguments, the best i could get the sales manager to do was put the item on hold for me and promise to contact corporate again on my behalf. needless to say, i was not happy with this, so when i got home later that day i contacted corporate myself, and explained the situation. they were aware of the price error, and told me that they could not honor the $30 price, which i again expressed displeasure over. when i emphasized that it was the first time in my experience that target has ever refused to honor a pricing error, the corporate csr offered to compensate me for the inconvenience in the form of a $30 target gc, whereupon i happily thanked her and gave up pursuing the podracer set.
