I do not like to work with direct flash and I am glad they do not have built in flash. 5D Mark iii is also totally different from 5D Mark ii .. Its like comparing 1975 Corvette and 2012 Corvette. Same name but different technology. Also 5d mark iiii have high ISO that i do not even need to work with flash most of the time by using natural light.

Why? You're not forced to use it if it's there, and it can be used as a wireless trigger for other speedlights - so you can avoid buying a transmitter or additional speedlight to use as a trigger.

Tempting as hell, I may have to go for it. Amazon is starting tax here in AZ in Feb, so this may be the time to jump on the deal.

Got this camera and took some pictures but they were not sharp. Did some micro- adjustment for both tele & wide. When doing the adjustments, the tele was good but at 24mm I could not get a sharp image. Called up Canon & they said to send it in for repair. Now, I am on the fence after spending $3500 on a camera & it does not work right out of the box ! I thought the Japs invented quality & this is what we get. I have to pay for shipping to get it fixed - what a bummer. This is going back to Amazon & will seek out a Nikon after being a 10 yr local canon customer

you need to post picture. what kind of lens? have another camera to try? and try using live view on 5d3 to see if better sharpness. micro adjustment is not necessary at this time.

Post a few samples with EXIF intact.

Can you post more details about how you were focusing and the general shooting conditions?

Is it still possible to get the Kit deal for around $3200?

To test the image do this.

1)Ensure your zoom is at 24mm
2)Ensure you are shooting raw at the lowest ISO (50 or 100) and at f/4
3)Take a picture of a text - maybe magazine etc on a tripod with IS on the lens off & with a timer on to prevent shake
4)Do not use flash and ensure you are in a very well lit place - do not have the sun or direct light hitting the picture.
5)View the raw image at 100% in photoshop or lightroom

Look at the image on the computer screen. Ensure you have a high quality screen - newer computers with HDMI will work.

If the text is blurry then you have an issue.

I have had the 60D & 7D and both cameras had a sharp image but not the 5D MK3.

What focus method did you use? Manual or auto - if auto - Did you select a specific AF point or let the camera choose? Single shot or servo?
What shutter speed?
How did you trigger the shutter?

You are testing AF of the system so yes you have put in AF mode with single point focus. It should be single shot with a timer. You can do it in either AV or M mode. Be careful of overexpose in M mode. On a tripod so ensure you disable IS.

I read on other forums pole are having similar issues. It is a hit or miss - depends on your luck on what you get
