Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens $91 Shipped (or $94 w/ USA warranty)

Very nice deal, I was deciding between this one and 40mm pancake last week. Picked up 40mm pancake couple of days ago. Don't see a reason to have both right now, so I am going to get comfortable with the 40mm before looking at more lenses.

I have both. I really like the 40. Not all that impressed with the 50 f/1.8. It's a decent enough lens to play around with but I've never had much luck with getting sharp pics out of it.

if you plan on shooting stuff 30-50 feet away then your best bang for the buck upgrade would be the Canon 55-250mm lens for $150-200, assuming you have plenty of light outdoors. image quality just would be at par with your kit lens though.

if you want better image quality, then this 50mm is a good value upgrade. of course it's not a zoom lens though, and probably not ideal for shooting stuff 30-50 away.

Just bought this the other day for 94. Bought it from B&H and price matched to Adorama. I wonder if B&H will refund the difference if I talk to them tomorrow....spent 8 dollars on 3 day shipping.

We come to this forum to discuss deals. If you want to learn more about photographic equipment, you should look for some photography discussion boards on Google. Don't take that the wrong way, just some honest advice.

I've been waiting for this lens, bought it. sent it to school since standard shipping ($2.30) will be cutting it close anyways.

Crop cameras introduce a 1.6x multiplier on the focal lengths of the lenses attached to them, so this lens has an effective focal length of 80mm, which as you noticed previously, was mostly good for headshots and not as a generalist lens. If you wanted something like a 50mm lens on your Rebel, just divide 50/1.6, which results in about 30mm. Canon makes a few lenses around there in various flavors of 28mm and 35mm, but they cost at least $300 and go up to over $1k. There's no real equivalent to this lens' price/performance ratio in the whole Canon lineup, sorry.

As far as adapters, you might look for a wide angle adapter. The optics will be worse, but it's kind of what you're asking.
