This happens also on the Pipe. When I connect my phone to my car audio dock this also happens. Let me know if you find the cure!

I think that's how it's designed to work. When I attach my iPhone to either the Vandal or the Pipe the volume controls disappear on my iPhone. It is redirecting the digital audio directly to the dock. If your old docks were letting you control the volume on both it might have been an analog signal.

I've used a Bose speaker dock and it does the same thing. The dock will ignore the iPod volume and just use its own controls. Not uncommon.

Ordered and received three of the Vandals. All arrived today. First one tested works great. For $25 each, excellent value. The iPod/phone plastic adapters are labeled (imprint on the bottom of the adapter itself). None fit particularly great with my Nano 2G (it's off-center in the dock), but will be fine with my iPod Classic which is what I intended to use it with anyways. Remote works very nice with the Nano and presumably will with the Classic. Plenty of volume on this and sound is what you can expect for something of its size.

Two of these are gifts for kids with iPhones.

Quick trouble shooting:
Does the big power brick have a green light?
Did you turn the power knob on on the Vandal? (The buttons should glow orange)

If you do have to ship it back it's like $16-30 to do it which kind of defeats the whole deal.

I pressed input and it plays through aux but not dock. maybe because I have a 4s?

Press "Input" again. Each press of "Input" changes the input from dock to aux, and then aux to doc.

my dad bought his wife a new ipod. gave him the vandal as a late xmas gift. they both absolutely love it

I am extremely upset with Skullcandy. I don't understand how an order price can change during the submit confirmation. I saw the price when I confirmed yet the order was processed at the higher rate. I called immediately to cancel but apparently it was to late (how convenient). I have just shipped the items back and an extra cost to me of $12. I understand completely about buyer beware but what I can't wrap my head around is how the price of an order can change like that! did anyone else have that happen to them? I believe I saw a post or two that it seemed to happen on.
