I went and picked up the A1C. It had a peelie coupon for $7 off attached to the box so there was no need for my printed off coupon...after coupon I paid $3.81 (w/tax). Received the $9.99 ECB. Thanks OP!

Then I used my MCR free 12 pack coca-cola coupons (I had 6) and the $9.99 ECB from the A1C purchase to get my mother 9 packages of Coke Zero 12pks. Total: $2.48 (w/tax). The 9 12pks of coke zero qualified me for $10 CVS cash card (because I spent $30 on select products i.e. coke products).

if you have no use for them, get the USB meter, it can be used as a (slow) thumbdrive, and comes with a quality USB wall charger.

I need it for my parents, they have blood sugar, so Contour USB would be better. Thanks!

the 'contour' meter measures your current levels of blood sugars.. these can change by large amounts over the course of just a few minutes during a day.

A1c stands for "hemoglobin A-1-C" which is a more accurate measurement of long term levels, these basically show your long-term blood glucose levels over the last 4-6 weeks. Both test are needed by diabetics. A1C is usually tested in a lab after having your blood drawn, and should be done every 2-4 months, while the regular blood glucose testing is done anywhere from 1-8 times per DAY.

As far as I know, the A1C-now meter is only good for two tests, then you need to buy a new one. It's also a more complicated test than simply pricking your finger and waiting 5 seconds for the number to show up on the display. The A1C-now test takes a few minutes and you need to perform more preparation of the blood sample before the meter begins the test. For elderly people, the A1C-now test should probably have someone helping them do it.

Yeah, just go up to the clerk/cashier and tell him/her that you want a CVS card. Some will give you a piece of paper to fill out and hand back to them. Some will tell you that you can go online and fill out the form. If you get one who wants you to fill out a form in store and you don't want to...just tell the person you're busy (or whatever) and you'd prefer to fill it out online. You will still get your ECB that are associated with that card.

Most of the cashiers at the CVS's in my area recognize me...so that can make it more difficult.
At one CVS in my area if you don't have a CVS card the cashier will scan a random card behind the counter and give the coupons/ECB that print out with the receipt to the purchaser without the card requiring them to sign up. I asked her how they are supposed to redeem the coupons/ECB and she told me that they're really good about letting them be redeemed without the card...but YMMV on that and I've never tried it. I also am not sure if she throws the randomly used cards away or if they are assigned to people later...
