Buydig just had the 240hz led 60" 3d tv UN60es7100 for 1997 minus 200 gift card making the TV only 1797 with free shipping no tax, and no 10 disposal fee. For 87 dollars more I think having a LED is a better deal. Had a 2yr old plasma set get a burn in because I left it on one nite and fell asleep. Will never buy plasma again

You are looking at the premium plasma panel with all the smart functionality from the best plasma brand in terms of quality.

Saying this 60" plasma should not cost more than 1500 is as absurd as
saying the Samsung series 8 LED 60" Smart TV should not cost more than 2000 bucks.

There's low end, mid end, and high end to plasma TVs. Just like LCDs or LEDs. This one happens to be a premium model.

I see many cheap 60" LCDs now. Even some priced at $600. Can I say no LCD on the market should be priced higher than $600?

I think you should do some quick research on google if you have no clue about Panny plasmas.

I have bought Panasonic products since the 70's. We paid $1400 for a 50" from Sears 4 years ago and had 2 boards die. I looked up the problem online and so many have had the same problem. $400 - $800 to fix, had to throw it away. Never buy any Panasonic again!

Edit: Nevermind, I had been going back and forth so much between this thread and the GT50 thread, that I was just looking at the original post, which had SAV300, without the "E". They seem to be working now.

Tvs have this feature now that auto power off when there's no button pressed for X hours.

My experience is quite different: We bought (from Circuit City no less) a 42" Panny Plasma in Oct. 2008 and loved it so much I bought a 50"" the next month.

Nary a problem in 4 years: no burn in, no buzz, no service calls. etc.

I'm looking to buy a 60" or 65" if the prices drop to what we can afford.

I think you are missing my point. A high end LED which will in a 10 yr period save you 6 dollars a month to operate on a consumption basis of 8 hrs a day versus a plasma. Everyone knows the technology to make a high end LED is much more costly than a high end plasma. I should know I work for a components distributor that supplies to TV manufacturers. Yes both are TV's but we are talking about a relatively new technology called LED versus a 10yr+ plasma technology. Its just based on actual costs to build. So let me rephrase "based on the technology and cost to build a LED vs a plasma, a high end plasma should not be priced no more than 1500 if you are able to buy a high end 240hz 3dtv from Samsung for 1800." But hey if you guys like buying older technology that costs you more electricity wise and has half the life span of a LED for the same price, then by all means spend away. But if you break it down to performance and cost of use, the LED win hands down every time. If you think it cost just as much to build a plasma vs a LED, then I have some desert land to sell you too

Now you are talking about the cost of building a TV? I'm glad you are an expert but in no way were you referring to the manufacturing cost of TV's in your earlier posting. If you are an expert in that industry than I am happy for you.

You said you were not talking about LCDs right? You are only talking about LED's eh? I hope you know LED is a type of LCD. I thought you are an expert in the industry.

If you can't afford that extra $20-$40 per year of electricity cost then you shouldn't be looking at high end LED(which is a type of LCD again) or plasma TV's to begin with. I'm pretty sure most high end audio video folks have the extra cash.
