Laplink Diskimage PRO free

Is this better than Acronis True Image? And is it universal key?

Not sure if it's any better, but it's free. Serial number appeared in my account right after I completed registration. I'm downloading ISO right now from their website, it's taking a little bit of time, file is approximately 300mb.

Since Acronis gets such terrible reviews I'll try this out.

They must have done this before. I had an account I didn't even know about - apparently they gave away PC Mover in 2006!

Hoping their privacy policy will protect my home address etc. Program looks solid though.

This would be a good tool if I wanted to switch my hard drive from HDD to SSD, right?

I hope their software is better than their dl speed...1 hour to download...

I've heard mixed answers about that... Google is your friend. Lifehacker probably has some good articles on the general process

The only problems I've had with Acronis are related to the scheduled backups and the Nonstop backup feature. Every once in a while, they seem to screw themselves up. I think it's usually when I run out of disk space on my backup drive. Other than that and some artificial limitations imposed on the software for the purpose of market segmentation, Acronis has worked okay for me.

Nevertheless, I'll download LapLink's program and see if it's worth switching. If it only supports incremental backups and not differential backups, that will be a deal-killer for me.
