Case in point: jude. If you've been around there for as long as I have you'd have read a "first look" thread by jude where he praised the Beats before they were released. Naturally, that thread is now MIA.

All Head-Fi cares about is conning audiophools into spending more money than they need to.

N.B.: I don't disagree with your points on the Beats and most likely have wasted more money in audio/headphones than most sane people have and hopefully will. Stay away from Head-Fi.

Instead of basing your opinion on what you've read in this thread you should probably go into a store and demo the headphone using one of the in store displays at one of the many places that carry them. IMHO, I wouldn't pay full retail price for these but at 50% off they are worth a look.

Beats headphones are expensive because of excellent marketing of a nice looking product. Why do people on slickdeals begrudge a company for being able to make a healthy profit margin. For the people who are buying them, they are making a fashion statement (or they just want to be *cool*). It's no different than buy Michael Jordan Sneakers, Diesel (or some other fancy brand) jeans, or a Prada handbag.

If Beats can do well by selling their products at a high price -- good for them. Dr. Dre may not be some genius tech guy, but he was a genius when it came to marketing his name and these headphones. It was genius to put them in the hands of Lebron James and other NBA players as well as Olympic athletes in the 2008 games. Good for him. Good for anyone who owns a piece of that business. Congratulations to everyone who got rich or is getting paid well due to their success.

Agreed, they're decent headphones for $90 & $150 respectively. And what people always neglect to mention is you're also paying for aesthetics. Sure the Sennheiser HD 555's might have better highs, but try taking those ugly cans into the gym with it's cumbersome 9 foot cord, & oh yeah you have to buy a 3.5mm adaptor if you want to listen on your iPhone. You can use the prepackaged metal one, but good luck getting that beast to fit your phone if you have a case, & having 4 inches of metal stick out the top of your jack is not ideal.

The Beats have a perfectly sized cord which is detachable too, which is nice. They look much more appealing (IMO) as opposed to some of the more popular alternatives people list.


Also, does the name HENDERSON! mean anything to you?

There are a tons of better "basshead" cans with detachable cables. One of them would be the Audio Technica Pro700 Mk2. Nice sleek flat black design if you are trying to compare aesthetics, unless you are into the loud candyshell of the Beats.

Lots of haters here... This is slickdeals.. Where we try to find the most discounts on products. These headphones are 50% off and are rarely found at this steep discount that isn't refurbished and yet so many thumbs down

Just because some of you "professional music listeners" don't think it's a good deal doesn't mean it isn't a good deal for other people that enjoy these headphones.

I was able to use the Staples printed clearance page to price match at OD. The page I had was not the Solo HD model, but he didn't notice. YMMV, he was quite unhappy with price matching, but did it anyway.
