Does anyone here have this problem - everyone you know thinks their kid is a genius? One cousin in particular always posts on Facebook how her 2yo is "6 months ahead" and "I know 3 yo's that don't talk (.) as well as her"
Lol......I think thats often the case. Parents will often think their kids are geniuses.
For me, I' ll think my son is advanced in some areas. But I think every child develops differently and may excel in certsin areas. However, they may not be in other areas.
My son learned to read and spell at 3 yrs of age. He can listen to songs or see my wife or I play a song on the piano. He can then figure out how to play parts of those songs on his own. But, he has always been slow with speech. His younger sister picks up language easily. Who's smarter?
not only does mine do that, she also licks her butt clean. good kitty
Let me know when you've taught your kid the same.
My kitties dip their paws in the water to lick them clean....then they both lick their butts clean. When that's all done they check each others butt's out to see if they missed anything. (I'm laughing here) This thread is going downhill.
Both of my kids are really smart, straight "A"s, Head of Schools, blah, blah, blah. But that's just book sense. They could use a computer by the time they were 5 and create Power Point projects. They can learn the in's and out's of a new cell phone, game system or laptop in less than a day. Fast learners, maybe. Geniuses? No way!
They both took longer to potty train than any little girl I ever knew. They both drank their bath water and tried to eat dirt when they were toddlers. The oldest closed the garage door on the hood of my brand new car 3 days after I got it, and only 20 seconds after I said "don't close the garage door, the car's not all the way in". The youngest (when learning to drive), sideswiped our mailbox, ripping it from the post and putting a 6 in. gash in the hood of my husband's Explorer. A 1 inch gash would have meant he hit it and stopped. When asked why the gash was SIX inches, he responded with "I already hit it, I was trying to get past it."
GPA's be damned ... these are not geniuses.
And that mom sitting next to me at the last Halloween Party. The one bragging about how her 4 year old can play Moonlight Sonata on the piano because he's a "genius"? Yeah, that kid was later spotted trying to use Dixie plates for water wings in the pool ... and nearly drowned. Guess what, mom? He's no genius either.
Show me a kid that graduated high school at the age of 10, college at 15, and is now studying Human Biodiversity, and I'll show you a genius.
One of my favorite movie lines ever: (from City Slickers)
Barbara: "Well she's got talent."
Mitch: "Talent? She was in one play and she fell off the stage. That's not talent that's gravity."
Some people need a sympathetic pat on the head ... with a hammer.
