Will an ethernet switch help me?
My parents use some device to stream in their Chinese TV shows, and it's through the internet. Currently, we plug an ethernet from my router to the device, and it allows them to watch whatever they watch. However, it's giving me terrible lag spikes. Normally, my games run around 80-90 ping. However, when they watch TV, I get lag spikes from 350-450 ping. It remains like that for up to 5 seconds, then goes down to 2xx ping, then will either drop to around 100, or rise again. If I get gigabit switch (mobo is M5A78L-M LX), will it at all reduce my lag spikes? |

It's most likely they are hogging all the bandwidth. What device do they use to stream the shows? Is it a computer? If it's a computer you can install something like NetBalancer or NetLimiter to limit the bandwidth it can hog. Also maybe just get faster internet...

it is your slow internet connection. if you pay for a faster internet connection you will be able to use more bandwidth hungry devices at once.
all a gigabit switch will do is allow for gigabit devices plugged into it to communicate faster between each other across the switch, which is behind the router. whats trending right now >>> Slickdeals Live View Feed TWC charging $3.95 to lease their cable modem - buy your own modem discussion if someone steals food from your lunch in the refrigerator at work, just make some yummy tempting cookies with laxatives in them. then just wait to see who gets the runs! that person wont ever steal anything from your lunch ever again!!! O.O |

go here [speedtest.net] to check your speed and then paste the result link back here. |

the powerboost stays on just long enough to fool the speedtest, showing faster then what you pay for. so the speed is there, but something is causing high pings. go to www.pingtest.net and check that w/o anything else running on the connection. |
