Windows 8 Unzip Program.

I accidently right-click a ".zip.txt" file open with Google Chrome and now I can't see "extract all" anymore for that file. How to choose unzip program using "open with" to change it back. I search but couldn't find the unzip program in Windows 8 anywhere.

Note: I had to add ".txt" at the end of that .zip file to email.

You have to remove the .txt file to unzip it... Right now the computer thinks its a text file. Also when you change it back to .zip you should be able to go to open with and it will give you a list of applications that can open that file. If you don't see what you want you can "choose default program" and select your application. (at least this is the way in win7)

I believe that Win 8 doesn't have a default zip program and the one from Microsoft costs 8 bux [microsoft.com], so the best thing is to download 7-zip free [softonic.com].

Folder Tools -> Options -> uncheck Hide Extention for Known File Types

I did remove .txt before trying to unzip the file, but I right-clicked and chose the wrong program Google Chrome instead of Extract All. So now everytime I double click it it opens Chrome browser.

It's different in Windows 8 and I did that. Still don't know where the Unzip Program is.

You need to "choose default program" (after right clicking on it) and change the default program.

Though it would be easier just to install 7zip or winrar and be done with it, they are better then the built in one anyway.

Edit: Im guessing you can try this [grinnell.edu], its made for win7 but should work for win8

Isn't it just Windows Explorer to open .zip files?

I couldn't find Windows Explorer in Search.

Yes, I did do the "choose default program" but don't know where the directory of unzip program.

I hate to see all the .zip files now have Google Chrome icon.

Yes, I did that. But where to go from Choose Default Program?

I click More Options, then Look For Another App From This PC. It opens Program Files and no unzip program to be seen in there.

I did go to both of your links and there is no unzip program to choose.

To create a zip file in Windows 8,
1) Right click on an empty area of the desktop and select "New" then "Compressed (zipped) Folder".
2) Name the folder appropriately, then double click on it to open it.
3) Paste files into it, as you would do in a folder.
The files are now zipped.

In order to view the contents of a zip file, double click on it to view or modify the contents, as you would do in any folder.
You can also right click on a zip file and select the Extract All option to UnZip the file contents onto a selectable location.
