The A8-4500M is comparable to a 2nd generation i3-2350M or a Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) i7-2677M. Your i3-380UM is a 1st generation ULV processor.

Thanks I think I will wait for a deal on one with a better processor or maybe just bite the bullet and find one now

still waiting to pull the trigger on a laptop at this price or cheaper... i feel that a fantastic deal is only just around the corner.

Between an i3 and i5.

You should be able to play fine but you should check to make sure it is acceptable. Some games scream on High others require low/medium settings.

AMD hasnt given up the chase as of yet at all, intel is just doing better when it comes to performance in single threaded applications with price being their trade off. AMD on the other hand has a lower performance in single threaded applications but shine compared to intel when all cores can be utilized, performance and energy consumption (if that is a factor) being their trade off. The average consumer wont notice the difference and/or it would be almost inane.

The power of an i3 isn't even used by most. I can't even tell the difference between CPU's anymore since the Core 2 came out; that is coming up on seven years. Maybe Intel finally realized this too since Broadwell is going 99% BGA

How does this computer compare with the Fujitsu Lifebook on the front page? I don't really want to deal with Mail in Rebate, and ~400 is my price point. Should I hold out and wait for a better deal from BB or (ideally) Amazon (no taxes, prime shipping)? I ruined my old laptop by spilling a cup of water on it and need another for back to school in about a week. :/ Thanks for your help.

BGA = CPU is soldered on to the motherboard i.e. you can't replace the CPU ever

17.3" size deals are very sparse and for AMD it is even worse. 15.6" with the same chip is a deal @ $350. If you need one now, get it. Otherwise, you can wait.

   The A10 17" model might be $499/$450 but unknown whether it will go that low. The A10 is really only a graphics bump (noticeable in games).

I think it's great price for NEW 17" computer if you need it now. As we all know, computer prices drops a lot over time. If you don't mind open items, or refurbished, they run around $350 i3 rev3 (17" HP or Toshiba) or $250 less than i3 (15") from local BB open items. Open items comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

FYI: My local BB has this exact same model as open item for $350. YMMV
