Endurance it is light years behind the Intel due to use of TLC NAND. Probably about 1/3 the endurance of the Intel. Great price, but I am going to sit on the sidlines on the new Samsungs Drives for lttle bit longer. |

Trying to decide between hdd and ssd. The price difference is still very significant dollar per gig. I don't care too much about boot time. Is reliability much much better with solid state? Don't want another hd to fail after 2 years again.

840 is ok, but dont pay over .50/gig for TLC, huge gouge
840 is a litlte faster than the Intel 520 in most aspects, and much faster for 4K writes http://www.anandtech.c There's not enough reliability data about the 840, but Samsung has a very good track record, they fixed their drive disappearing issue and disclosed the issue http://www.anandtech.c There are better deals to be had, unless you absolutely need an 840 250gig drive right now for some reason Currently giving helpful/hilarious posts: 4 rep points
If the price is low, but the product is junk, it's not a deal. Currently thumbs downing all >$0.33/gig Samsung TLC 840 SSD "deals" and dual core "MBP" deals. |
