I chose this over $75 Pioneer SW-8 [newegg.com] and $85 Polk Audio PSW10 [newegg.com].

This is a smoking deal! No tax to NY so was $229 total for me. That's only $114.50 per sub shipped! You won't find a better sub for under $115 than this Velodyne. Even though this is entry level, in terms of performance and reliabilty, this vx-11 crushes those garbage subs that litter slick deals back pages every week (i.e. pioneer SW-8, polk psw10, etc). These are excellent for a cheap dual sub setup that sounds great.

Good deal. No need for a 5.2 / 7.2 receiver either just split the subwoofer cable that leaves the receiver. It's all the same signal, the room correction feature does the work for ya especially those that eq sub's. ie audyssey multi-eq/xt

Trying to decide between a pair of these and a pair of the Dayton 10's for essentially the same price for a large bonus room (14x28). More audio than theater. Thoughts?

how would the two 10s compare to a 12?

Nice deal. I was trying to figure out how best to pair up two different 8" subs I have (ML Dynamo 300 and a Monoprice sub) and decided to just pull the trigger on these and sell the other two. Out of pocket should be about $100 after I sell the other two.

Pairing these with NHT SuperZeros in my new apartment. Hope the neighbors don't hate me!

great price on 2 subs.. debating if I should spend exta on PA-120 or HSU STF-2.. are these good for music also?

I agree it's a good deal however I disagree completely with you claiming the pioneer sw-8 is a garbage sub. I have a velodyne f1000b servo sub, an infinity ps212 sub, a harman kardon sub plus two pioneer sw-8 subs. The pioneer subs are the cleanest, most accurate subs i have listened to. I chose them over the others hands down, no contest to go with my infinity beta set up in a 15x13 room. If you have actually tried one then you received a bad unit, don't know how to set a sub up or are a bass head. The pioneer smashes the velodyne servo sub, call velodyne and ask how the vx-11 compares to an f1000b, they will tell you the f1000b is in a completely different league.

I actually had 3 pioneer SW-8 subs for about 6 months. I had one in my bedroom system and loved it, but tried 2 SW-8 subs in a secondary living room that was quite a bit bigger and was completely disappointed. The pioneers are much too weak for anything bigger than small bedroom. I agree that the pioneer was excellent all around with music and movies in my small space, but very limited due to lack of overall power in medium/larger spaces. I actually have since dumped both my vx-11 velodyne subs as they don't sound that great after extensive break-in. I have gone back to dual definitive technology supercube III subs in my main living area. Nothing I have found sounds better overall and the velodynes did show their budget colors after a few months. Still great budget subs (vx-11 and SW-8), just not the right fit for my needs. Will probably go back to one sw8 for my bedroom setup though.

Are the definitive technology supercubes as clean or even cleaner bass than the sw-8? If so I may need to give them a try.

The def tech supercubes are pretty amazing. Bass is much more musical than the SW-8 subs, but with nearly unlimited output and power. They literally just get louder and louder with little to no audible distortion. I mean ridiculously loud and deep, yet never sound strained. Of course even a nice used supercube will cost the same as 5-6 SW-8 subs would new, so completely different price levels. I prefer the supercubes over the velodyne spl8 series 2 and velodyne minivee. It also crushes the mini pretenders like the mirage mm8 and the similar models from klipsch, energy and Jamo. You can't beat the performance and look of the supercubes, but they don't come cheap.

I will definitely have to check them out then. I know everyone has a different sound preference but two sw-8s sound nearly perfect with my beta 50 setup, the resonance from larger subs always seems to diminish the clarity of the mids and highs from my towers, but the supercubes have a small woofer plus i believe they are sealed enclosures aren't they? Did you smooth the port on your pioneer sw-8, it is a three section piece, two plastic ends attached to a cylinder, from the factory the joints are not smooth and create the port chuff, I pulled the amp and sanded them smooth and it eliminated the port chuff you get at higher listening levels.
