I think what a lot of you complaining about the 500CCA fail to realize is different sizes or "groups" of batteries have different CCA ratings. Compare apples to apples here, a Group 51R from one place compared to a Group 51R from another place is fair. Comparing the ratings of your Group 58 battery purchase from Wal-Mart to a Group 51 from AA does not make sense. They are different sizes and have different internal configurations therefore different ratings.

If I am reading the deal correctly, the exact discounts in the deal are for ANY of their Gold series batteries, not just the 51R. Find the correct group size for your car which may or may not be the Group Size 51R linked as an example by the OP and you will be fine with whatever its specific CCA rating is.

Examples of others ones from AA are...
Group Size 24, 700 CCA
Group Size 58, 610 CCA
Group Size 65, 850 CCA
Group Size 34/78, 800 CCA
and so on.

You can get a different Group Size battery with more capacity if you want, nothing wrong with doing that as long as it physically fits, bolts down safely, and you can attach your terminals to it without pulling too tight or them shorting off of something. Who is "they"? That brand sounds like a Napa? Most national chain auto stores and mass retailers have better prices than smaller shops and auto repair facilities. I'd say $140 is not ideal but not a ripoff either.

Pretty much anyone using a 51R battery IS driving a 4 cylinder Honda because they're about the only car that uses that battery, bro. If he posted a group 78 battery that was 500 CCA you'd have a point, sorry this battery isn't ideal for your '84 Monte Carlo. I actually use one of these little guys in my RX7 because of the weight savings and engine bay space it frees up.

but at $12 (trade in)
it could be worth keeping the old battery, if i could bring it back.

ie. solar projects, lawn mower batt, misc 12v accessories.

If it has removable caps you can check the water level and electrolyte content of the water. Adding distilled water is easy, I have no idea where you'd actually get acid if the acid level is low. Which brings up a point, any type of messing with a battery is dangerous as its full of acid and produces hydrogen when charging which can ignite or explide under thw right conditions. Also its pretty common for a "dead" battery to have an internal short which renders it useless.

I got the last battery deal from Advanced Auto, what a nightmare. I had to call them 10+ times, email them, mail them extra info via snail mail, and finally threaten a credit card dispute before even getting any type of assistance on the rebate. Complete brainless monkeys in the rebate center. I will not be buying from advanced auto again.

i need a new battery for my sienna and noticed that there's a AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 24, 700 CCA.. i have that and the headlight restoration kit on my cart and with the 50$ off it comes to 88$... my question is can i get my 12$ core credit with the existing battery in my van or it has to be a different battery? also what about the installation? is it free?
