No go with old cell phones. Basically if it has no trade in value on the site, you won't get anything in the store. He basically said if it isn't touchscreen, there isn't even a chance.

Oh, so Best Buy lied then? Noooo.......never....

This could be not bad if you have some old DVDs/CDs laying around. I picked up a couple I had in a box for garage sale and it says 10c per DVD. So getting $5 GC ea would be worth it. I could do this everyday and collect a bunch of GCs for cheap DVDs I don't want anymore.

I don't think this trade-in applies to DVDs and CDs - the devices that play them would be a maybe, but probably not the disks.

the local Best Buy manger. He said it was okay for me to record him and corporate

Me: "but this email sent directly from Best Buy says any small device, working or not"
Manager: "yes, but it must have a trade-in value in our system in order for us to accept it... if it has a trade-in value, then we'll accept it, working or not"
Me: "how can something show up as having a trade-in value if it is not working"
Manager: "you're correct, if it doesn't power up, the it's NOT going to have a trade-in value, so we cant' accept it and give you the $5 gift card"
Me: "so the promo in the email is meaningless?"
Manager: "no, if you bring a working phone with a trade-in value, we'll give you $5"
Me: "so this new Galaxy S3 that I bought from you a week ago will have trade-in value?"
Manager: "yes, it should be worth $100 to $150... if you trade it in, you'll get $5"
Me" "you mean I'll get $5 on top of the $100 to $150 value?"
Manager: "no, you get $5 if you trade in the new Galaxy S3 today because that's our promotion.
Me: speechless... almost passed out
Manager: "so you want to trade in the Galaxy S3 for $5"
Me: "probably not... just so I'm clear, NON-WORKING phones will not be accepted for $5 gift card?"
Manager: "no, you misunderstood me... if it has a trade-in value, you will get $5"
Me: (gave up and left the store)

I felt like I was talking to Lassie. My head hurts whenever I try to reason with people at Best Buy. Where does Best Buy find this kind of people to work as managers in their stores?
