This has been an awesome tablet to own. The development community at XDA [xda-developers.com] (and here [xda-developers.com]) is very active. There are all kinds of toolkits, ROMs, and guides. I highly recommend it based on the amount of support behind the product.

I caved in and bought it from Newegg with the VME promo and shoprunner. For $29 over the $200 of the 16 GB it felt like a fair deal. Very excited to play with the new toy, big thanks for the VMEPROMO call out

If you plan to root this you should do it right after you buy it. Rooting wipes all of your user data and files so you will have to reload them after a root.

Awesome tablet. Got this for the kids (and the parents...me) and have had nothing but great things to say about it. Took it on my flight from PA to Vegas and it lasted almost the entire time playing demanding games (Anomaly HD). Have had it for much longer on just surfing and wasting time. Pretty sure I paid this exact same price back in Nov but it's still in my top electronics purchases for the last 5 years or so.

Highly recommend.

does this or another tablet setup have an HDMI that I can plug in to tvs while traveling?

Just bear in mind that they are going to release a new nexus 7 that is going to be 129-150 (they have stated they want to make one as cheap as $99 even) in the first half of 2013.
