Anything you buy while under PS+ is yours forever. Anything free you get you can't play once your PS+ sub is gone.

Not sure I would've gotten into the series if I hadn't gotten the first one free as the "we're sorry" gift from Sony following that major PSN outage. Make sure that your credit card on file is valid. Old expiration date will cause this error, for example.
