You may be better off with a Raspberry Pi which has ethernet and composite video.

I wouldn't agree. A dual core would have a much more responsive UI and be a useful product for a lot longer. It'd also probably match up better with a lot of other current android hardware and therefore be more likely to get newer firmware. A lot of single core development is still 2.3 based and everyone wants to develop for the new stuff.

I have the MK802 II. My only issue is that the video\audio is off on some videos. I haven't had the wireless issues some people have been complaining about.
It works well for netflix and adding a wireless mouse for navigation is seamless. Has anyone been able to get Hulu Plus to work on this?

Just bought a MK802 IIIS...hope it goes well, so I can get rid of Roku XS completely

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted that question I did a bit of reading - it seems Miracast is the next mirroring standard for Android (included in 4.2). Is miracast just software or does there need to be any additional hardware in the dongle to support it (assuming you are running 4.2)?

On top of that (depending on your exact needs) you can outfit any Android-based hardware with a full suite of services from Web, file sharing, secure tunneling and the like. The "Ultimate Servers" app in the play store is one good example of this. The Ram and CPU power of these sticks is more than enough to do that sort of thing very well, and they typically run from 1 to 5 watts at full load.

This is a pretty complicated and frustrating device to use properly. I have an MK808 I bought for 45 dollars and have had some trouble with it before making it work. If you can on streaming HD videoes (1080p) through your LAN make sure you pick up an ethernet adapter and allow it to wire to your router as most wifis will not be able to do this.

Yes. There is a server app for the Android stick and a client app for the phone or tablet. There are a few of these, here's a free one that was designed for the MK802.

It works pretty well, but can be laggy if your connection isn't great. It has a mode that is less laggy. That mode turns off the live video display on the phone but still allows the phone's touch screen to control the server device.

Keep in mind it is version 1.0 and has only been out a week or two.
