What matters is how well it runs. It needs a bigger battery because Android has problems with battery life. The iPad gets much better battery life than the Nexus 10. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-1973...-vs-ipad/#! It needs a faster processor with more cores because Android doesn't run as well as iOS. A common complaint about the Nexus 10 has been that it doesn't run smoothly. The iPads run very well. Having more advanced options is good (for a very limited amount of people), but over clocking is going to destroy your battery life/may cause heat issues. |

Spec doesn't mean anything. My moms iphone4 is smoother than my galaxy s3. Ditched stock browser and using chrome but still behind iphone 4. But I love screen size and widgets. Need to get hands on nexus 4!
Play with both and ull understand. Both have pros and cons. |

CPU and Ram speed have everything to do with speed. Take the same coding and run it on a 1ghz processor and then run it on a 2ghz processor. What has the better experience?
That, it doesn't matter B.S. is just what the mfg's want you to believe so you are okay paying lots for old/crappy hardware. |

iOS is smoother than android, period. Apple also custom designs their processor to the specific needs of iOS. This is why, clock for clock, the Appls Ax series outperforms cortex A15 reference designs. I'm writing this from an Android tablet. If the iPad mini was retina and A6 i would jump ship. Too bad.
To the people who are saying Nexus 10 GPU is superior to iPad 4, only thing i can do is laugh. You're not serious, right? Even the iPhone 5 GPU is superior to Nexus 10, which has to fill over five times the pixels. http://images.anandtech.com/graph.../51305.png http://images.anandtech.com/graph.../51307.png Last edited by jamesred21; 01-03-2013 at 04:36 PM.. |

Android does more, but in order to accurately compare "apples to Android" you need to try both from a factory reset. Then open up your normal 5 or 6 apps (leave android widgets off). Finally, open Android's app launcher and compare to using the iOS homescreen. See if it's any different. The default browser showdown is equal in real world usage |

First, you mention it "Looks" like crap, but you and most everyone else in the "tablets need apps" camp really harp on functionality. Decent devs have put the time in to scale (there is no "if" they can). If there isn't scaling it's usually because the dev used some tinker-toy coding set like Corona or GameSalad to make a junk iOS app and then wanted to port it without learning anything about java or the android sdk tools available To the usability part, I just don't feel like a majority of apps need a tablet version. There are some exceptions like Mail, notes, etc. (I don't think the system settings should be "tabletized") |

This is from Consumer Reports recent review:
"Not only is the Nexus 10 right at the top of our Ratings with Apple's iPad, it's also a CR Best Buy. It's got one of few excellent displays, with 2560x1600 resolution. There's also GPS, which is lacking in the Wi-Fi-only iPad. Version 4.2 of Android, which this tablet uses, includes Google Now, which automatically provides information like local weather, your favorite team's scores, traffic reports, and more. Battery life was quite long. Highs • 1.7 GHz 2-core processor • Screen resolution 2560 x 1600, high for its size • Battery life longer than most • Excellent display quality • Screen coating reduces fingerprints and makes cleaning easier. • Voice-typing feature • Keyboard can use "Swype" entry method • GPS mapping • 5-megapixel camera, higher resolution than most • Screen uses high-durability "Gorilla glass" • Long cord makes tablet easier to use while charging • Full access to the Google app market Lows • No memory-card slot Detailed test results The Google Nexus 10 (Wi-Fi, 16 GB) was easy to use for a wide variety of functions. It was easy to move from screen to screen using finger swipes, and to move app icons among screens. Google includes an enhanced user-interface. Home screens have useful custom widgets. The on-screen keyboard may be used in "Swype" mode to type by sliding between letters. Turning from portrait to landscape while reading a book worked well. A voice-typing feature lets you dictate emails and text documents. There's no memory-card slot, so storage can't be expanded. You can sync and transfer files to and from a PC using USB. The display quality was excellent overall. Colors were among the most realistic and natural-looking we've seen. The screen was among the brightest we've measured and readability in sunlight was good. Viewing angle was extremely wide in landscape orientation, making it easy to share viewing of photos or video with several people. Viewing angle was extremely wide in portrait orientation, making it easy to view by several people at one time. Touch response was excellent. The capacitive touchscreen responds to a light finger touch, and allows multiple fingers to perform gesture actions. Moving objects and using finger gestures is easy and precise. Icons were easy to move and place precisely. A special coating on the screen resists fingerprints and makes cleaning easier. This tablet has a very good set of useful features that make it convenient and versatile to use - see the "About" section for more details. There is full access to the Google app market, with a large and varied selection of apps. There is also access to a large media market through Google Play, for downloading movies, music and books. There are a variety of sensors to provide positional and environmental info to apps and games. These include a global positioning system (GPS) receiver to locate the user geographically and allow the use of navigation apps, an accelerometer to give motion feedback to apps, a gyroscope to give rotational feedback to apps, a magnetic compass to give directional feedback, and an ambient light sensor to reduce the screen brightness to extend battery time. The long charging cord makes it easier to use the tablet while charging. This is among the most portable tablets in the 9- to 12-inch category. Its battery life of 11 hours lets you use it all day without recharging. It's very slim and compact for its screen size, and at 1.33 pounds, it's a lightweight tablet for its size. About - Google Nexus 10 (Wi-Fi, 16 GB) The Google Nexus 10 (Wi-Fi, 16 GB) is a larger tablet computer with a 10.1-inch screen. It has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600, which is high for its size. The rectangular screen is a better shape for videos than for photos, and it utilizes toughened Gorilla Glass for durability. The tablet has a 1.7 GHz Samsung Exynos processor with 2 cores. It runs on the Android 4.2 operating system. It has 2GB memory and is available with 16 or 32GB storage. There is a headphone jack with a volume control, a built-in microphone, and stereo speakers. Internet connectivity is via Wi-Fi. You can plug a digital TV into the HDMI port for a large-screen view. It has a 1.9-megapixel webcam, and a 5-megapixel camera with a flash. The tablet measures 10.39 inches long by 7 inches wide by 0.38 inches thick, and weighs 1.33 pounds." |

It's hard for Android to become as smooth as iOS simply because Android devices tend to do more in the background (widgets, multiple apps running, etc). There's no free lunch. But I would think iOS would start allowing more multi-tasking as hardware and battery tech get better. |

I really like the galaxy note 10.1 and the ability to write on the screen but everyone keeps saying "the resolution of the nexus 10 makes reading text and books an experience unlike anything before" or similar. Is it really that different? If i'm going to spend $500 on a tablet I might as well consider apple too. I've embraced the android ecosystem quite readily since 2009 so going apple would be painful. Still, my main use of this tablet will be for reading textbooks and consuming media like videos, etc.A nexus 7 is too small (or rather, too similar to my note phone) and i've considered the kindle fire 8.9 and the Nook HD+ as well. Not sure which is really best but considering the hardware in the nexus 10 it seems the most futureproof. Great rebate Companies:
Patriot Memory (4myrebate.com): 6 Weeks Tiger Direct (4myrebate): 3 weeks Rain-X (in house): 3 weeks BAD BAD MAIL IN REBATE COMPANIES: Xigmatek 26 weeks, 14 emails, 2 phone calls (finally received) NZXT 21 weeks, 4 phone calls. Check that was finally received was dated 2 months earlier with a 90 day expiration on it, giving me about 25 days to cash it. Shady shady shady. |

this article is spot on for me. Take a proper Android phone a top of the line one and the experience to me is matches IOS smooth. Add in what Android offers over IOS and the winner to me and seems others is becoming more clear. Iphone is great, hardware fantastic, IOS holds it back and always will with the walled apple garden. Eitherway competition is great and todays devices IOS or Android are fantastic. |

Have to disagree on this. If you read any Amazon.com reviews on popular products, then you can see that most of the reviews are positive. The score for most mainstream products are between 4 and 5. Or in other words more than 80% of the people who reviewed had to say good things about a product. If it was like what you mentioned, i.e. 99% of the feedback are only complaints, then any product on Amazon would never have a rating greater than 1 out of 5. |
