Turtle Beach X12 TOSLINK inquiry...
So I got an X12 for Christmas, however my TV is newer and thusly doesn't have analog audio out. It does have digital audio out, and my X360 slim has an optical audio port as well...so instead of buying the HDMI audio adapter for the 360, can I just buy a TOSLINK cable to run between the console and my TV?
If you refer to your husband/wife as 'DH/DW', you're too old to be active on a forum.
If you ask for marriage advice on a(ny) forum, you should seriously reevaluate your life. If you don't know the difference between 'their', 'there', and 'they're', I automatically assume you have a mental disability (same goes for to/two/too and your/you're/yore). |

That being said, the Slim Xbox 360 has an optical audio output port, so you don't need the HDMI audio adapter. However, I haven't seen many TVs that have optical audio input, unless it's connected to a VGA or DVI port. In which case, you would only need an HDMI cable to run between the Xbox 360 and your TV for both video and audio. |

The X12 has RCA inputs that need to be plugged into the audio out ports on either the TV (which it doesn't have) or the X360 (in which case an adapter is required).
I was reading somewhere that if you're connected via TOSLINK, you don't need the adapter, however I'm unsure how that could be possible...not sure how audio would then be transmitted from the console and/or TV to the headset. |

You can always use an adapter like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2

The 360 doesn't have any audio input, so you wouldn't get sounds from tv channels out of the 360. Digital audio cables are one directional, you need to pay attention to inputs and outputs. The exception to this are HDMI devices that support audio return channel.
The reason I suggested the type of adapter I did is that you'd be able to feed any audio any device connected to the tv via the tv's digital audio out. Last edited by jkee; 01-03-2013 at 07:33 PM.. |

I recommend taking half of the housing off of the regular Xbox 360 component/composite cable so that you can still use your HDMI video and use the audio inputs from the component cable for your headset. It's the cheapest option since it's free so long as you have one of the older style component cables for Xbox 360.

Or just spend a couple bucks and get one from Monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2 |
