I've owned a 4-cycle trimmer for years (Toro brand...same parent company as Ryobi (my trimmer came with a Ryobi owner's manual)). I hang my trimmer engine up and haven't had any oil leaking. You don't need to turn it upside down to edge. You just rotate the trimmer head 180 degrees when you insert it into the power head. I have a hedge trimmer attachment so I do end up turning the engine on its side often when I'm trimming bushes...I don't do it for a long time and try not to turn it upside down. I like the power a 4-cycle has over the 2-cycle, I like not having to mix gas and oil and I don't miss the constant smoke that comes from a 2-cycle. My only complaints with the Toro/Ryobi 4-cycle trimmers are the orientation of the gas tank and the muffler being on the side instead of the rear. Since the tank fill points down when I hang it vertically, the gas will drain out. I've just gotten into the habit of enptying the fuel into the mower after each use. Also, I am left handed so the natural carrying position is for the muffler to be against by body instead of pointing away from it. No big deal....it is surrounded by plastic and I've never been burned by the muffler, I would just prefer it point the opposite direction.
