Have anyone actually did the Federal AND State efile yet? Does the free code work for free state efile?
I think this only count as working if you can complete the "free" Fed/State efile.

This is the first year that I've switched from Turbotax to H&R so I don't know how previous versions have worked. It's much to early for me to be able to file, however for the version I refer to in the post above yours it's encouraging to see this in my confirmation email:

Registration Information

Name:
XXXXXXXXXXXX

Address:

H&R Block At Home Deluxe + state + federal and state e-file: FREE

Haven't tried yet... but maybe because the IRS isn't open for processing returns until the 30th?

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/I...040-Filers
WASHINGTON — Following the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA), the Internal Revenue Service announced today it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30.

and TurboTax software will be holding the returns and filing them on the 30th on a first come first serve basis.... I suspect that HRBlock software doesn't hold the return until IRS accepts, thus we cannot submit until the 30th?
http://blog.turbotax.intuit.com/2...y-30-2013/
" TurboTax will hold and securely submit your tax return to the IRS on a first-in, first-out basis. So filing now puts you first in line for your tax refund."

Okay found a workaround for those that filed last year using Turbotax Online (not the desktop version) and did not save their 2011 return in the .tax2011 format (for example if you only saved it in .pdf form as I did):

1) Search in Turbotax support for How to Amend (Change or Correct) a 2011 Return You Already Filed [intuit.com].

2) Select the If you are NOT using TurboTax Online to file your 2012 return option.

2) Then Enter your TurboTax Online login and password to retrieve your prior year tax files.(I had to use the Alternate Site option listed below the login to get it to work)

3) Finished - you then will be offered a link:

Please click below to download your prior year .TAX file.

Download Your .TAX File

The link will be to your 2011 return in a .tax2011 format file (that can now easily be imported into all the mainstream Tax prep software programs like HRBlock at Home 2012, and Turbotax 2012 Desktop version).

Note: For some reason HRBlock at Home 2012 did not like the .tax2011 file i exported using the above method and gave an error when importing. I had to find an old copy of the Turbotax 2011 desktop software - load the .tax2011 file - then save as a new file (without changing anything except giving a new file name - for some reason this file was substantially smaller) and then the HRBlock software had no issue importing my re-saved .tax2011 file.
I follwed these steps and am getting the same error when trying to import my .tax2011 file from Turbotax into HRBlock at Home. Unfortunately I don't have an old copy of the desktop software kicking around though. Has anyone else found a different workaround?

Did you check to see if your keycode is enabled under the File tab? From the confirmation email:

RedeemYour 5 Free Federal E-files

Your installation entitles you to 5 free federal e-filed returns. You'll need this Key Code to take advantage of this service.

Key Code:XXXX-XXXX
  1. After completing your federal return, go to the File tab.
  2. If this code isn't automatically populated, enter the Key Code from this e-mail.
Also from the H&R Block Newsroom [hrblock.com]pertaining to whether they store your return until the filing date:
Due to late passage of tax legislation, the IRS announced today it will begin processing federal income tax returns on Jan. 30. That is eight days later than originally planned.
This does not mean taxpayers have to delay preparing their tax returns, however. Whether taxpayers prepare in one of H&R Block’s 11,000 tax offices or use our At Home product, they can prepare their returns now and we will hold them until the IRS is ready to begin processing.

If what I suggested above and the Read Me file that came with the program doesn't address the problem you should probably call customer support [hrblock.com].

I hope this helps.

Sorry I didn't read last few pages. Following instructions in Wiki and it seems to work but do you have to register under the name that you'll use to do the returns?

Most likely not. Maybe a 1% chance you will.
