We used to be able to borrow a friend's copy of turbo tax to install on our computer. He would use it on his parents' computer too. As long as you don't register the software (just click the box that says to postpone registering), this should allow you to install on multiple computers and thus do multiple returns including state returns--just one per computer. Just make sure you don't register the software on any computer!

However, I just returned a generator that was 7 years old and they balked. The person at the desk had to to call a supervisor and the supervisor was told to call someone on the phone. They "allowed it this one time" but in the future I am not to bring in equipment more than five years old because they usually won't take that back. Uh, so much for the 100% satisfaction guarantee! (I bet they looked online first to see how much I've spent in the last seven years and decided they didn't want to lose me as a customer, so they took it back.)

If you live where they charge sales tax at Costco, but not on online purchases (like here in MD), Amazon is still a bit cheaper.

If some of the questions were too complicated, there is a chance you are missing deductions. HR Block normally has a free second look after the middle of February, might be worth an hour of your time.

I don't know your situation or how long you work in each state, but make sure you talk to your tax guy about a per diem.

I just made a purchase but kind of regret it now. The site doesn't instill confidence. Sure it uses Amazon payments but just to be safe I used my $20 rebate card. The download file is hosted by Mediafire. I hope my copy is really legit and I'll be able to e-file my tax and not get rejected.

For those that purchased the download version from Amazon, is it an 80MB download file?

Aye, it was an older copy. Some years back Intuit went with DRM. It was a disaster. They overwrote sectors of the bootloader at the front of the harddrive so computers could no longer reboot. Once you fixed that, you found you could no longer print out completed returns. It was such a disaster that Intuit swore off DRM. Of course, by that point, most of us had sworn off Intuit.

Having not used TurboTax since, I don't know how they are these days. But H&R Block's TaxCut software is just dandy. No problems. Answer a few questions and print out all the complicated forms all filled in. And you can produce .PDFs too, which really helps when checking numbers in subsequent years...

It's 114.0 mb according to amazon.

Just purchased via Staples and price matching. This way, I also get quicken 2013 (starter). Per my quicken dialog boxes, my version (2010) is set to have it's downloading ability terminated this year.
