For anyone that has used Premier, is it significantly better for reporting your stock trades than Deluxe? I used Deluxe last year, and I remember this being a giant pain in the ass.

Does Deluxe usually come with a free state e-file? I can't remember. Seems like one was free in the past but I might be getting it confused with federal.

I used Premier one year and found it to be a waste of money. It did exactly the same as Deluxe for stocks.

Thanks that makes sense. So the boxed product I can do state and print / mail it at no extra cost, but online to do state AT ALL costs extra.

Agree. We didn't have any problems putting our stocks in Deluxe.

If you use a major brokerage firm, you can download your 1099 and all trades directly into the program. My 1099 from LPL was 15 pages long last year. It downloaded perfectly. Just an FYI...

I hear ya, but I like knowing that I have a copy on my own PC. I don't like depending on the interwebs for this sort of thing. I am in control of my own PC and worst case I can print it and file by mail.

If you want to, you can buy the retail box and then pitch it. Hold on to the CD or just copy it to your PC and pitch it as well. Reselling it on CL or that auction site is probably illegal but do as you wish (just make sure you can sleep at night).

Yes. I've done this last year. You will be able to transfer information from last year. There is an option with in the software to sign-in using your existing Turbo Tax account.

$35 is pretty typical, don't remember seeing $30. This is a good deal so early.

I use Deluxe and it does a good job with my brokerage account. Premier just for stocks is an overkill IMO

Use it! One year mine wouldn't download for whatever reason....few hundred transactions. I really abbreviated my entries into the program and a couple years later the IRS assumed that I had had zero cost basis ( if only) and when they audited me they sent me a bill for somewhere around $29K! Open that mail and have to change your pants....

I've had a lot of financial changes this year and I'm expecting a refund far larger than I have ever had (typicaly I like to be +/- $1K...no penalities and no free loan to Uncle Sam) so I'm going to check that TurboTax $35 audit assistance (or whatever it's called) at the end before I file my taxes. Peace of mind.
