I played D1 when it came out, but did not play D2 (was a busy time in my life). I played D3 on release, and still do, and enjoy it. I don't play it obsessively... probably an hour or two a week when I feel like mowing down large groups of critters and "whoops, I put auctions up a week ago, I should check them." Seeing all the whining about D2, I bought D2, installed it, and played it for a few weeks. It's not that great. And it's not that different, other than it is old. I think that people who played D2 on release are just really nostalgic. Also I have NO DOUBT that upon release and in its day, D2 was a better game compared to its competition than D3 is compared to its competition in its modern day. I also have NO DOUBT that D2 was a revelation of a game and totally cutting edge and incredible when it came out, where D3 is just a good game but nothing groundbreaking or astounding. But compared together I don't see how people see D2 as a better game compared to D3 right now overally in 2012/2013 by 2012/2013 standards. It's not. (And no, I'm not just talking about graphics.)

I bought D3 for a friend for Christmas who loves grindy RPGs and who has never played D1 and D2, and he loves it. D3 was up for multiple game of the year awards (I haven't checked, but I doubt it won any of them given the superior competition... but being nominated after a year of people flaming it is still something). It's a good game. It just doesn't inspire the "HOLY CRAP WOWEE ZAPPO!" reaction from the same players that had that response when D2 came out, and now they are pissed. I guess that's alright... and they are entitled to not enjoy the game if they don't want to... but I wish they wouldn't spend their internet hours trying to encourage other non-D2-playing people, who might find D3 completely fun and enjoyable, from even trying it, just because their decade old fantasies didn't come true.

This DEAL still is not good, though.

Diablo 3 is nothing more than a Facebook game. Mindlessly clicking away hoping to get some random reward doing the same thing over and over and over again, while being pressured to spend your real money for virtual items.

Screw Activision and Blizzard for ruining the franchise.

Yup, same here. Though I was able to sell some of the items (the skull and usb) for like $35 or so. So that helped w/ the cost a bit.

My point was simply be prepared to get hooked into a game that actually kinda sucks with little to no rewards.

ah...i bought 119 copies of the CE...made over $22k in sales, 7-8k in profit. all in 10 days..ty slickdeals.
