Believe me, I was not offended. Everybody is entited to his own oppinion and that is good. If you think I am a whiner, that's fine ![]() What really stroke me is the fact that people (I grabbed you this time, but there are a lot more out there) jump to conclusions and make hard statements about thing they don't have all the information of. That particular thread you linked to is about, Allwinner trying to push us in the forest with something, that what they gave us were the exact same files. No probrem, must be an error, but when asked about it they start to lie and lie and .... Call me a whiner, that's fine, but I DO HATE liers! Anyway; when the dust settled they apologised. If you read the story further on my blog wou will read that eventually they sent some other files. At this moment their latest linux hardware drivers are borked. We gave them all the info they need to solve it, but they can't or they don't want to solve it. Thousands of people have reproduced the errors. At this moment there are two XBMC ports available, VLC is available, and all sources are available to them to reproduce the bad decoding. You can read all about it here; http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarXVideoRenderingChart http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC Now to answer your question about why MXplayer can do it, but XBMC can't; XBMC is opensource and released under GPL. XBMC is free. Free as in no costs and free as in all sources are open. You are free to take them, use them, modify them, do whatever you want, just honer the GPL license. You can contact suppliers asking for their video decoing code. To get it you always need to legally bind yourself and sign NDA's (Non Disclosure Agreement). Tht code used is not open, meaning that XBMC have to close the sources. XBMC dev's will never do that! Usually NDA's are combined with large sum's of money as well, hence the reason most good player are not completely free. But that is the easiest part. Secondly; XBMC is pure C/C++ code, most of Android is JAVA. XBMC actually contains just one line of JAVA code telling Android to startup that C program. Players that are coded in JAVA can hook into Android's libraries. Most NDA released libraries and code also hook into or extend those API's. All with all completely useless for XBMC. XBMC because of it being a native C/C++ program has to hook directly into the hardware, can not make use of any API/Framework. |

Here's the MX1 version at amazon: linky [amazon.com]. More expensive but seems to be a solid device

FWIW I feel your pain about people jumping to (erroneous) conclusions and then broadcasting them far-and-wide as fact. I feel this tendency is responsible for most of the misinformation in the world. Last edited by tadc; 01-06-2013 at 02:52 PM.. |

So to sum up, there is no ETA, because it's up to Allwinner to fix their code? |
